Not sure if it works to post one photo to join two contests in one post namely,

#ColorChallenge Friday - Sea of Blue Flags

Anyway, this is for the sheer fun of it. Just love to see the flags flying in unison in the wind. I prayed my camera phone captured the flags nicely like a pro without any blurry images of flying flags. It did! What a pleasant surprise!

Looking at this photo in greater detail made me realize one can't capture the same image twice. That's it. Just one shot. One can reprint a thousand copies or more, but one can't ask the wind to blow all the flags to be placed in the same position again as this shot.

This also reminds me of the quote, "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." by Heraclitus of Ephesus, a renown Greek Philosopher who used to give me insomnia expounding on his quotes.

In my younger days on one of my Hash Runs, I had to cross a stream. And because it was nice and cold water, I decided to stand longer in the stream when Heraclitus' quote hit me and I finally understood what he meant...

When you step into the stream or river, you are stepping into a specific bit or flow of water. If you lift up your leg and step into the water again, you are actually stepping into a different bit of water.

In addition, just by stepping into the water, you have changed the course of that bit of water.

And that's not all, you have also eroded the pebbles or sand under your feet.

Therefore the river is always changing and never the same.

The same applies to human beings and society at large. We may be the same person today as last week, but we may have changed in some way due to our experiences and impacts others may have made on us. The same with human life, our bodies are forever changing or renewing itself though it may look the same.

In a nutshell, Heraclitus' quote simply means change is constant and that everything is changing though it may look the same.

And this, in turn, reminded me of The Tao - nothing changes yet everything changes.

Hope I've not given you a headache. Happy reflecting over this enlightening weekend!

And yes, to all Malaysian Steemians voting in the 14th General Election next week on 9th May, vote wisely. Remember this -- it may seem nothing changes but everything changes.

God bless Malaysia

wow, quotes from greek philosopher...

there is one from Epicurus

He believes that human stripped off all their prejudices and in their natural state is benevolent. I sincerely believed that.

Couldn't agree with you more bro @perennial. Prejudices are ego-driven.

BTW, it just so happened I read Heraclitus book years ago and this particular quote stuck in my head till I figured it out literally in the stream years ago... and somehow ended writing about it today. It was agonizing the last few days wondering what to write next and I had a mental block trying to decipher what my cats are saying to me. ;) :p

I remember Oscar Wilde said this

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist

So true. Most lack critical thinking hence the state of our society.

WWish you good luck for the contest

Thanks @digitalmind. Yes, I got carried away hammering my keyboard then. Glad I managed to pen my thoughts down. Really doesn't matter if I win any contest... but that would be an added bonus! ;)
