Cafe near the Basiliskenhaus. / Кафе у дома Василиска. #streetphotography

This cafe is located in the center of Vienna. I did not photograph people at the tables, but a showcase in which something very interesting is happening.
The fact is that this cafe is located next to the legendary Viennese Basiliskenhaus. House 7 in Schönlatergasse (the lane of the Beautiful Lantern) is known for the legend of the Basilisk. Once upon a time in the well of this house a terrible monster Basilisk settled. People assumed that he was born from an egg that had been pulled down by a black cock. Therefore, he had a bird's head with a cock's comb, but in general - an infernal offspring. Basilisk had a dragon's body and a snake's tail. The most terrible was the looking into eyes of such a Basilisk: all living things from this look turned into stone. The baker and his daughter who lived in this house were in terrible danger. Apprentice baker, in love with the girl, volunteered to destroy the Basilisk. He showed not only courage, but also ingenuity. The young man descended into the well, hiding behind a mirror. Basilisk, rushed to see who came to visit, stumbled upon his own deadly look in the mirror. And petrified.
As a reward for his feat, the hero asked the hands of the baker's daughter. And happy residents immortalized this story, placing on the facade of the house the petrified basilisk and drawing under it a mural with an illustration of what happened.
So this house remained in history as the Basiliskenhaus.
Of course, cafes nearby also enjoy this legend. In the window, the scene of the Basilisk murder was recreated.
In addition to the memories of the sights, I like to view this photo and just like a street scene. Two people sitting at one table do not look at each other, each thinks about something of your own. A woman who has just sat down at a table, studies the menu.

Это кафе находится в центре Вены. Я фотографировала не людей за столиками, а витрину, в которой происходит что-то очень интересное. Дело в том, что это кафе находится по соседству с легендарным венским домом Василиска.
Дом 7 в переулке Шёнлатернгассе (нем. Schönlaterngasse — переулок Красивого Фонаря) известен легендой о Василиске. Когда-то давным-давно в колодце у этого дома поселилось страшное чудовище Василиск. Люди предполагали, что он рождается из яйца, снесённого черным петухом. Поэтому у него была птичья голова с петушиным гребнем, но в целом – адское отродье. Василиск имел тело дракона и хвост змеи. Самым страшным был взгляд такого Василиска: всё живое от этого взгляда превращалось в камень. Живший в этом доме пекарь и его дочь были в страшной опасности. Ученик пекаря, влюблённый в девушку, вызвался уничтожить Василиска. Он проявил не только отвагу, но и смекалку. Юноша спустился в колодец, прикрываясь зеркалом. Василиск, бросившийся посмотреть, кто пожаловал в гости, наткнулся на свой собственный смертоносный взгляд в зеркале. И окаменел.
В награду за свой подвиг герой попросил руки дочери пекаря. А счастливые жители увековечили эту историю, разместив на фасаде дома окаменевшего василиска и нарисовав под ним фреску с иллюстрацией произошедшего.
Так этот дом и остался в истории как дом Василиска.
Конечно, кафе рядом тоже пользуются этой легендой. В витрине воссоздана сцена умерщвления Василиска.
Кроме воспоминания о достопримечательности, мне нравится рассматривать эту фотографию и просто как уличную сценку. Двое, сидящие за одним столиком не смотрят друг на друга, задумались каждый о своём. Женщина, только что присевшая за столик, изучает меню.
