Street photography: Grafton Jacaranda Festival 2017steemCreated with Sketch.

in #streetphotography7 years ago (edited)

The country town of Grafton on the Clarence River in northern NSW, Australia, was first established in 1851. With a population of around 19,000, today it is the commercial hub of the Clarence River Valley. Inland from the coast, it is within an easy drive of coastal towns such as Coffs Harbour, Wooli and Yamba.

Grafton boasts many historic buildings and Jacaranda tree-lined streets. It is located approximately 630 km north of Sydney and 340 km south of the Queensland capital city of Brisbane.

During the last week of October and first week of November each year, Grafton celebrates the blooming of its purple Jacaranda trees by hosting its annual Jacaranda Festival. Established in 1935, one of the main events is the crowning of the Jacaranda Queen. The last day of the festival is known locally as Jaca Thursday and includes street stalls in the main street, Prince Street, as well as performances by local businesses in Market Square.

Here's some #streetphotography from Jaca Thursday 2017.

Nice initiative. Also in my city of Cagliari (italy) there are many Jacarande that bloom at the end of May. The whole city is dressed as a villa

Thanks for letting me know @sardrt I will check it out. They certainly are beautiful trees when in bloom.

Heya, just swinging by to let you know you're being featured in our Daily Travel Digest!

Hey, no jacaranda shots? As you know we stuck to the coast so drove through Grafton but didn't stop, and obviously weren't there for the festival, so thanks for sharing this.

Ha, no. Just a few shots from the festival in the main street. I did think after I posted that I perhaps should've included at least one Jacaranda tree in bloom. Maybe, that will be another post ;-)

Cheers.
