Overnight stay in Paralia Katerini to escape the summer heat

It was the summer of 2007 in Greece. After spending a number of unbearably hot nights without air conditioning in the house we were staying at in nearby Kontariotissa (free accommodation so I am forever grateful and not complaining), I needed, however, to cool down with a night by the beach. In a room with air conditioning. 

I found a pleasant hotel in Paralia, just a short 15 minute drive from the centre of Katerini. The hotel was situated right on the beachfront and facing onto the main shopping strip.

By night, the street was full of life with tourists and locals out enjoying the warm summer evening. Shops were open late into the night.

Going for an early walk the next morning, I found the streets almost deserted.

Until ...

A few people emerged out on the streets for breakfast and coffee.

I wandered down to St Paraskevi Church.

... before taking in one last view of the beach.
