That evil wench. She'd done it again, it was no accident. One crutch rested upright against the wall nearest to his bed. The other lay several yards away, flat on the ground. Next she'd pretend not to hear him holler for it. And the nurse would take her side again.

Is he really the victim of a vicious prank or is his mind playing tricks on him? Pick the interpretation that you like best. I'm not sure which one I've settled on myself so your guess is as good as mine.

The random word this story was based on was "crutch".
