Tower ruins (story cubes contest entry round 7)
Life has been quite busy haha, ridiculously busy to be honest, but I had time to do a little sketch of an archer stumbling upon tower ruins in the mountains, it was a nice exercise to use simple shapes and strokes to gesture more info than there really is.
thumbnailing is quite fun and before we go into the process, please do go to @jacobtothe 's story cubes contest!
Cubes used : Ladder mountain arrow
Tutorial time!
I tend to not like a blank canvas you guys will probably notice that if you follow me later down the track but i pass in basic shapes, i dont really think i just let the shapes do its thing and work off whatever for composition!
Make it more cinematic by adding soft strokes in the back to hint at mountains and something ot catch your eye in the middle ground
Pushin that middle ground!
and thats how i quickly sketched up this piece before bed! back to college i go!! if theres any questions please do ask i'll try my best to answer!
@lunaticmoon Your generate up is spectacular. Mad regard for sticking as a result of many of the hardships, Many of us would've Give up A great deal before. Upvoted.
Ngaww ahha your compliments are too generous!
I'm not really seeing the ladder or arrow in the art. Could you elaborate?
So its an archer which is the person in the foreground travelling in the mountains and he stumbles upon a mysterious tower, and usually watch towers in medieval times had ladders and supplies or would have stairs to the top but yeah i thought annotations would work thats all
I see that. we're looking with the archer, over his shoulder. ladder against the building and mts in background. love the way you showed how this came to be.
@lunaticmoon Incredibly pleasant completion of article! Beloved the photographs and outline..

It's beautiful. I love simple forms too.
Have you tried going more with widescreen format to see what the composition is like in a more cinematic cropping? There's a bunch of them here.

I'd love to see more of the landscape and world on the sides!
