The Desire of Loneliness (My Original Short Story)

in #story8 years ago (edited)

It was the usual school day. Everyone listens to one of the numerous boring lectures in the classroom. Some people writes notes, others play mobile games, listen to the radio through their headphones or even chat ignoring the teacher. But She just sits and looks out the window noticing nobody.

If somebody looks at Her attentively, he will see nothing but sadness in her eyes. She feels the awkward wind playing with branches of trees in the street, and Her thoughts are far beyond the university’s borders. She feels like She walks in the park, along the embankment or somewhere in the countryside. But the most important thing is She’s alone in these places. There was nobody around Her. These are sparkles in her eyes, she continues smiling…Yes, She is happy now.

Every time someone asked Her what the happiness is, She was confused and couldn’t give a straight answer. And how on earth can someone explain the thing that you can only experience? And here, feeling the light wind that stirs Her golden hair and gives Her unbelievable feelings, She understands that it is so easy to be happy. Even too easy. All She needs is to feel the complete freedom, to realize that she is not alone here and that no one is able to interrupt these magical moments.

Yes, She hates people and has never hidden this. They are so hypocritical, sneaky, cunning, evil, violent… She may list endlessly. Mere thought about people can make Her depressed. Who is She? What is She doing among all these people? Why does She look like them? They accept Her and think She is one of them. But She knows exactly that the superficial resemblance means nothing.

She is different. Her thoughts, points of view, dreams… And there is no one in the world to share Her experiences with. No one to understand Her. No one to feel comfortable with. She is all alone. It was be so always and it will be so in the future.

And now, the bell rings. The lecture is over, all people collect their things fast and leave the classroom chatting about some useless things carelessly. But She needs more time to recover consciousness and get back to present reality. And now She puts on this hateful mask again, the mask of a human being, and blends into the crowd of students.

Your story should probably have been called “The desire of solitude.” Loneliness is when you feel lonely and you want to be around people to overcome it. Solitude is when you are introverted and want to be left alone.

Actually, you feel lonely not when you are alone, but when you are surrounded by the wrong people.
