It is often said that volunteers are the most important people in the world. I felt this sense of importance while volunteering for OneAfricanChild during her Children's Day street tour.

It was a very humbling experience, it opened my eyes to the fact that there are so many kids out there in dire need of help irrespective of how little such a help might seem.

27th of May is celebrated nationwide as Children's Day in Nigeria. Kids of various ages look forward to this day with lots of excitement, some adults also do, according to them, its an opportunity to spend quality time with their children, take them out to various places for fun and bond with them.

Moving round the crowded city of Ibadan on this day, you can see kids everywhere. You see them at parks, cinemas, restaurants, religious places, some even visit the zoo.

You can see the smile on their faces as they troop into these various places, and why not, they deserve to be happy everyday especially on their day.

The society we know can be divided into two groups. The group I just mentioned can be taken as the first group.

The other group consists of those children who see Children's Day as just any other day because there is no change in their routine.

They go about their day the same way they've been accustomed to, hawking goods or begging by the road side.

These are kids I spent Children's Day with.

Since they could not go out to fun places for the celebration, we decided to bring the fun, games and excitement to them in the little way we could.
