Testing Ads, Documenting the Process and a Special Shout out to a Cool Fellow Steemian

First of all, I would like to give a special shout out to @cryptohustlin for the great work he’s been doing in the last weeks.

This is @cryptohustlin’s latest post and as you see, he’s doing a good work trying to bring attention steemit.

I spoke to him yesterday in the chat, and I was impressed his energy and savoir faire.

He has tons of cool plans and fresh ideas, but I won’t spoil that for him. Just keep an eye on him, because things might get interesting.

Documenting the Process

Gary Vaynerchuk always says that one of the best things you can do in social media is to document the process. How to get from where you are to where you want to be, and all the things that you went through to achieve whatever goal you’re after.

One of the reasons behind that is that many people are currently going through the same thing you are, and that has an great appeal because it serves a need that many people actually have.

Another reason behind that is that it’s real, thus being authentic. Generally, people like to see what’s behind the scenes, so in a way you’re giving people what they want, a special sneak peek behind the curtains so to speak.

And more importantly, there’s a huge need in the market for things like that and not many people are doing it yet.

“Most people focus on the wrong thing; They focus on the result, not the process.”

― Ronda Rousey

And if it works out, you can look back at how you achieved the things you planned, and maybe help others do the same.

If it doesn’t, at least you’ve documented the process and you can see where exactly you've failed and so you could learn from it and get better at it.

So with that in mind, let’s give this “documenting the process” thing a shot.

Running Ads, Phase one

Alt Text

Let’s start with the basics, what’s type of ads do we want to run?

There are different ways to look at this, either A) What works best. B) Whatever you like and have emotional attachment to. Or C) Something unique that you’ve tested already and that you know that people would like.

Surprisingly enough, most people would operate on the B)... But let’s be pragmatic here and chose option A) What works best.

In this case, it’s video. So we are gonna pick one from the promos we've prepared previously.

(Bonus tip: Always plan in advance and if at all possible, try to hold a few aces under the sleeve)

Keep in mind, the whole process would be a test in itself, if the ads turn out to be a success, then the video should be remade in a more professional way and obviously if it converts a lot, then more efforts should be spent in increasing the target audience's size.

But moving on, now that we’ve selected the type of ad, what’s next?

The first thing I always do whenever I have a problem to solve, is to reverse-engineer it. To go from the end towards the beginning.

Reverse-Engineering is the Best Time Saving Tool You Have

Suppose the ad is already running, and people are already clicking on it. Then what?

Now is when you have to put yourself the viewer’s shoes, especially one that has never heard of steem nor steemit before.

The first thing most people look for whenever they encounter something new is social proof. Period.

They look at the number of likes on Facebook, or the view counts on YouTube, and that tells them if they should pay more attention to what you’re saying or not.

So in this case, which video would convert more? One that has a bunch of views and likes? Or one that has literally thousands of them?

Now the next problem you have to solve becomes:

Alt Text

How do we increase our views count before even starting to launch the ad?

You see, that’s why starting from the end towards the beginning is a great time saver, because problems always happen, and if you're able to solve them before they even have the chance to be created, then you’ve gained a massive advantage over the competition.

And then the next question becomes:

How do we increase the views count?

Easy. The exact same way as our friend @cryptohustlin did yesterday.

Now, what makes me so sure that that technique works?

Because I already tested it a little over a week ago on this post

A new URL shortener was created to track how many outside of steemit clicks were converted using this technique. This is the result:

So you see, everything gets tested, even increasing the views count has to be tested.

Why? Because testing makes you more efficient. You know what works and what not, and that will get you closer to the desired outcome.

This is not growth-hacking by the way, people actually click and watch it

And let's not to forget, the promo in itself should be a great way to introduce steemit to people.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet, let’s go step by step. After all, we’re documenting the process here and we’ll know soon enough what works best.

Now that we have our strategy laid out and preliminarly tested, the first step is to increase the views on the promo.

At the time of typing this, the views count is within the three digits mark, 162 to be exact.

So let’s see how much it grows to in the next three days. And then we can test the first round of ads and try to maximize their effect.

The most important thing to be learned is:

Make it Count

In case you like this new type of posts about documenting the process. Please let me know in the comments below and I’ll make sure to keep creating some cool posts in the same way and maybe reveal some singular techniques.

After all, it’s not only about the result only, it’s also about the process.

Happy weekend everyone!

Hi @the-alien!
You bring so much value in your post!

This hit home with me. As we are launching Steemycam, I want to be as transparent as possible. Especially here on Steemit so that our followers truly feel like they are growing with us.

Following you now!

Thanks a lot @steemycam! Looking forward to see your project in action! :)
