in #story6 years ago

One morning, when the woodcutter had gone to the forest, and his daughter had finished her housework. She decided to go for a walk in a park.

As she was strolling down a broad path a barouche carriage lapsed by, and it took a halt. A lady came out of the barouche, went near the woodcutter’s daughter and said – “What a pretty girl! I am the daughter of the king,” she introduce herself and asked – “would you like to be my handmaiden?”

Daughter of the woodcutter was stunned with the question of the princess and replied in a respectful manner – Yes, your highness, it would be my pleasure to serve for the Royal family.

Same day evening when her father came back home from the forest, she told him the whole incident and asked for his permission to serve for the Princess. Her father felt very proud with his daughter and wished her with all the blessings.

So the woodcutter’s daughter become a handmaiden, and began to serve for the princess. With the gifts the princess gave her for her prompt servings, she and her father become quite rich. Her father bought a nice house, and he also didn’t have to gather thorn bushes anymore. But somehow he forgot what the White beard man told him.

One day, the princess went on a picnic to one of her father’s private garden and she took the woodcutter’s daughter with her. There was a small lake, so they decided to play along.

Do you know swimming? The princess asked.

No madam. Daughter of the woodcutter replied.

Princess – Even I too don’t know how to swim. I’ll play in water and come back and by the time I will leave my jewels here, please take care of them.”

The princess took off her necklace and placed it on the bank. But when she came out, she forgot all about it.

She wore the other jewels and prepared to leave the place with woodcutter’s daughter.

Princess said to woodcutter’s daughter – “we had a great day here.

Woodcutter’s daughter replied – Yes madam, it was a wonderful time.

Come, it’s getting late, and we will leave now. – Princess suggested.

A few days later at the palace

The princess was sitting on her dressing table, getting ready for the morning promenade, while dressing her up, she looked for the necklace but couldn’t find it. She asked the woodcutter’s daughter about it, but none of her maid know about it and remain clueless.

Princess blamed the woodcutter’s daughter – “You stole my necklace! You must have taken it when we went for our swim!”

No, your highness, I wouldn’t do that she replied.

You are a thief and a liar too!
Princess shouted with anger. “I’ll show you what happens to people of your kind! Get out of my sight.

The woodcutter’s daughter ran home with tears. But with an hour later, soldiers came to the door of woodcutter. They arrested the woodcutter and his daughter. And drag them off to the prison.

Inside the prison, it was a dark place with small wooden table to have a sit, woodcutter sat on the table with all his depressing questions and said – “What wrong have I done to undergo this suffering? My God? After all the hardships I went through I have nothing left with me.

As the sun set, the woodcutter cast his thoughts over all that had happened to him in the past weeks. All at once, he cried out.
“Ohh, what a foolish, ungrateful wretch I am!” Didn’t the white beard man ask me to share what I have with the needy? Yet I haven’t done it once!”
“Dear father, please forgive this ungrateful man…”

The next day, the princess had another picnic, in her father’s private garden, and again she went down to the lake for a swim. She was about to step into the water when she saw the reflection of her necklace.
Princess spoke up with a gloomy voice – “Ohh… I have committed a great mistake…” “The woodcutter’s daughter was innocent after all!”

By the end of the day, the woodcutter and his daughter was free from prison, and his daughter was back in the palace again.

From that day, every week, the woodcutter always remembered to find someone in need and share what he had.
