A Venezuelan, first murdered in 2018 for gender violence in Spain

A 46-year-old Venezuelan woman became the first woman to die in 2018 due to gender violence in Spain. She was allegedly murdered by her partner, a 69-year-old Spanish man, at her home in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the archipelago of the Canary Islands.

The finding of the corpse, which had stab wounds, took place on Friday night, according to EFE sources confirmed by local police, who showed up at the house alerted by neighbors who heard a fight.

The alleged aggressor is very serious after suffering a traffic accident when he apparently fled from the conjugal home.

The daughter of both, of 9 years of age, was in the house when the facts occurred and, according to the same sources, before the supposed author of the crime fled, took her to the house of another person where she was located.

Spain ended 2017 with the tragic report of 48 women killed by gender-based violence, eight children murdered by couples or former partners of their mothers and 27 orphaned children, figures that exceeded those of 2016, according to official data.
