Dearest victim and beloved executioner:

" It isn't your past that well and truly defines you; even if you were to continue onto this day wearing it boldly on every inch of your skin, what you do from now onwards is who and what you will become— and that is all that should matter.

History can be likened to that of a most persistent filth that simply won't wash away; dearest, there is no washing it away, you can only hope to overcome it and come as clean as life lived anew would allow it.

When the next you go into the baths, or you take a long shower, have a care not to scrub your skin too harshly, won't you?

When you are told that you ought to forget the past so as to be able to properly live in the present and look forward to the future, you mustn't do that; remember the past for all that it once was and what it has done to make you as you are now, no one can hope to be anyone without a past. "
