Just another day in the city – a short story written by jacksondavies for steemiansarena

Growing up my grandmother always thrilled me with tales of mysteries out there in the world. I always took her stories as nothing more than entertainment for her grandchildren, until I had an unforgettable experience that changed my perception.
On Tuesday 22 July 2008, I embarked on a journey to see my parents. My usual routine in times like this, was to rise early and take one of the first buses available before the bus station got packed with commuters. By 9:25 am the bus I boarded was filled to capacity and it left the station. I took in the sights and sounds of the city as we drove by, as this happened to be my favourite part of travelling.
Most of the journey was uneventful until we got close to the state border. There we noticed vehicles ahead of us turning back. Pedestrians were also making their way back in large numbers. Our inquiries revealed the reason behind this mass exodus. Apparently, some highway men had taken over the road and were operating on the bridge that was supposed to take us out of the city.
To our amazement, our driver ignored the warnings of the pedestrians and went forward. Pleas from the passengers to him and his assistant fell on deaf ears, and seemingly emboldened him to continue.
A couple minutes later we could see the chaos on the bridge. The bus ground to a halt and the driver and his assistant stepped out. They began undressing and in a short while were stripped down to nothing other than their hats, briefs and shoes.
Both men reached into the bus and pulled out automatic rifles. The commotion in the bus was shut down by the driver who warned the passengers not to scream, no matter what they saw or heard. He and his assistant then headed towards the direction of the robbers.
They were not gone for long before the chilly silence in the air was broken by the sound of gunfire. The passengers laid on the floor hoping for the best as bullets whizzed above our heads, shattering the windows in the process.
After a while, the gunfire ended and silence returned to the bridge. Some bold passengers raised their heads to find out what happened and saw two faint figures heading towards the bus. When they got closer we realized that it was our driver and his assistant.
To our greatest surprise both men were unscathed. They had driven the robbers off and the road was clear for us to proceed. Both men got properly dressed and continued the journey.
Years have passed since then, and I have never been able to fully comprehend what happened on the bridge that day. What forces in the universe could enable two near naked men engage and defeat an entire gang without suffering a scratch?. Today the answer remains as elusive to me as it was then. There have been many unanswered mysteries in the world since history began, perhaps this is just another one of them.

The world as a whole is a mystery, we only know what we know, but cannot know everything, no matter how hard we try.
True.
Some answers will always be out of reach no matter how hard we search.
Interesting story. The world is indeed full with mysteries and we will never be able to explain many of them. Not even science can try.
There's a limit to what science can achieve.
Wow.. One answer comes to mind though.. Juju 😂😂😂
Strong one, really strong one.
This is indeed a very good story... Kudos!
Thanks @tosyne2much.
Cool, heroic story. There should a disclaimer, try this only in your dreams 😁.
For that to happen one would have to be lucid.
Otherwise prepare yourself for a nightmare.
