MotoStories #3 || Audi Q Drive || The Quattro Off-Road experience ||

in #story7 years ago

Audi Q-Drive is one of the more exciting events held by Audi. The Audi Q-drive is held in a custom made off-road track within the city limits, designed in specific to show-off and highlight the off-road capabilities of their Q range cars, especially to show the Audi's legendary Quattro system.

So what are these Q range of vehicles by Audi? These are the off-road cars, the SUVs. They have 4 models in the Q series, starting with the compact SUVs like the Q2, Q3 and the Q5 all the way to the big daddy of them all the Q7. Q7 is the top of the line SUV from Audi with all the bells and whistles that they offer.

Now what does the letter Q stand for? It is basically a smart all-wheel drive system that these vehicles use in them and its called the Quattro, hence the Q. This system lets you take your expensive german car off the road and into the dirt.

Let me show you what i mean by that.

So my day began from the showroom where they briefed us about what to expect at the dirt track they had built for the event and some safety measures.

While i was at the showroom i just couldn't take my eyes off the A3 Cabriolet which was on display at the showroom. May be one day i shall be able to afford this, or something like this.

We were then taken to the track by the folks at audi itself in their test drive cars, so i ended in the plus Audi A6, which by the way is a brilliant car on its own.

Once we reached the track, all the Q cars except for the Q2 were ready to roll.

I never get picked first for anything, that's basically the story of my life. But that day i was picked the first to drive one of the cars but to my luck some one else got to drive first. Anyways, because of that i was put in the back seat of a Q3 which took a round of the test track.

That was quite an experience.

And then, it was my turn. And i got to take the big Q7 round the track. The first thing taht you see once you enter this car is the display in-front which Audi calls "Virtual Cockpit". Which is one of the most amazing cluster i have seen in my life. There are so many things going on there. Gone are the days with our conventional Speedo which shows only the speed, the RPM, the fuel level and the temperature. Take a look at this.

enter image description here

I mean the cockpit itself is so plush and elegant. Audi always comes through with its interiors. absolutely the place to be if you ask me.

enter image description here

And then it was my turn to have some off-road fun.

enter image description here

This was quite scary if i'm honest.

enter image description here

Well i don't have a picture of me performing but this is what it would have looked like.

enter image description here

enter image description here

I even got a souvenir from audi, that was nice.

All-in-all, it was a fun day with Audi. What an experience.

I'm partial to Audi cars of the A, S and RS lines but boy I sure wouldn't mind spending a day doing some off-road play with the Q models.

It looks like the off-camber pit traverse (as shown with the red Q3) must have been pretty unnerving.

Why are you partial towards them? And the day I spent goin off-Road however brief a time it was for, it was super fun.

Oh yes, it was quite nerve racking when I was on the back seat and even more so when I was driving the Q7.

I just prefer cars to SUVs...If I got an SUV an Audi would be high on my list but I really like the S model Audis like the S6 and S8. Those aren't too off-road capable though!

yes same here, i prefer sedans to any other type really. And yes, cars like S6 and S8 are pretty great cars but only meant for the road.
If you really want a luxury off-roader then look no further than a RangerRover Vogue or a sport.

Great shots, how does that course compare to other offroad test courses? What did you think of the Q vehicles say in comparison to BMW, Mercedes etc? Love the old quattro cars

Thank You.

  1. it more or less the same course what the other big brad prepare for their off road events.
  2. when it comes to the feel, a BMW is a better pick any-day but on basis of off-roading capability, audi is pretty darn good but i'm not sure how the BMW's XDrive or the Merc's 4Matic all wheel-drive systems work as i haven't tested them out off road. But i have tested a rangerover sport and boy-oh-boy was that good. That's easily my best off road experience till date.

I would love a test drive in that car :D

Thank You!

Then you should definitely get a test drive. its quite simple actually. Just go to the showroom and ask for it and they shall happily give it with no much questions asked.
