The Diary of An Insomniac #1

I'm an insomniac. I can stay up all night without feeling sleepy at all. I don't even drink coffee. I have this sleeping condition for a few years now. I'm used to it. I lived with it. Whenever insomnia strikes me (which happens almost everyday actually), my brain works a lot. It's just it's most productive, most creative, and smartest in the middle of the night - when I am the only person left awake in the community. Eerie. But, again, I'm used to it.

Staying awake, alone in my room, I keep on hearing things I don't normally hear during daytime. Everything is just so quiet, so solemn. Everyone is sleeping soundly on their own beds. And I'm all alone, staring at the ceiling, thinking about the most random things the human mind could think of.

Since I arrive home late, usually around 10PM, (since school finishes at 9) I am normally greeted with an empty house. Everyone already got to their own rooms and are preparing to sleep (or are already asleep, which is more likely). I eat dinner if I haven't yet with my friends before heading home. Then skim to some news I missed that day, or talk to friends through the phone... Until everyone is slowly vanishing to end their day... Until I am left all alone.

Most of the times, I am entertained by music. I listen to them until my playlist runs out; then I'll repeat them. That cycle continues until I hear my mom doing her stuff in the kitchen cooking breakfast. When that time comes, I know myself that I had to pretend I'm asleep, as she comes I my room and checks up on me every morning. How sweet of her. Please do note that it is REALLY hard to pretend you're asleep when you smell the delicious food to be served for breakfast.

When I am lucky enough, the pretention will work and I will finally fall asleep after an hour or two. But, most of the times, I just have to pretend that I had a good night's sleep and wake up to breakfast, while trying not to look like a sleepless zombie with blood red eyes. And my journey towards another 24-hours of staying awake will then start.

I apologize if this post has a lot of grammatical errors, or has no proper plot. This is actually spontaneous. I just wanted to share what it's like staying awake all night, when everyone else is sleeping. Thank you for reading!
