Elephant Story
When a man walks past a set of elephants, he suddenly stops. He was confused by the fact that the big creatures were being tied up with only a small rope attached to their front legs. No chains, no cages. It is clear that elephants can escape from their bonds at any time. But for some reason, they did not.
He saw a coach nearby and asked the coach.
"Why are the animals just standing there and not trying to run away.
Well, when they were very young and much smaller, we used the same string size to tie them up. And, at that age, the rope is enough to hold them. As they grow older, they are conditioned to believe that they can not escape. They believe that the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free. The man was amazed. These animals may at any time free themselves from the bonds of their ropes. But because they believe they can not, they are stuck exactly where they are.
Like an elephant, how many of us are living depends on a belief that we can not do something, just because we failed once before?
