In today's world, things like climate change, environmental pollution etc. are considered very seriously. But that was not always the case.

In the '60s, environmental pollution had become very large. Due to uncontrolled industrialization, soil, water, and air were all contaminated. The most terrible thing is, there was no law to remedy this pollution!

At one time in 1969, California's oil spill was causing huge disasters. Seeing this incident, Wisconsin Senator Gelford Nelson was extremely upset. He started thinking, what can be done!

The time was in Vietnam-USA war. The US student community developed nation-wide movement with a strong position against this war. Nelson was also interested in the movement for protection of this anti-war movement in the field of environmental protection.

To this end, he announced a day for environmental education in the media. Congratulate the Republican conservative senator Pete McClavsky to chair the conference with him.

At the same time, John Hernes of Harvard University made National Coordinator to succeed in the day to day life. A group of 85 people were formed to make Hesse Day successful.

On April 22, 1970, there were about 200,000,000 American programs to celebrate Earth Day. Earth Day programs are celebrated across various colleges and universities across the country. The organizations that were already working against environmental pollution, highlighted the impact of industrialization, coal-fired power, pesticides, etc. on that day.

In the year of the Earth Day, "Environmental Protection Agency" was established in the United States. This company takes various steps to preserve the environment in the United States. In this endeavor, they have enacted legislation, research, grants etc.

Moreover, in that year, separate laws for the first time in the United States to protect safe water, air and extinct species were enacted.

From 1970 to 22 April, the World Earth Day is celebrated to keep the origin of environmental movement memorable.

Later, as the founder of Gallard Nelson Earth Day, in 1995, he won the prestigious US civilian honor, "Presidential Medal of Freedom".

Then in 1990, the Earth Day was given a new dimension. Since that year Dennis Hewes started celebrating Earth Day worldwide. The day was celebrated in 141 countries in that year.

In that year, special emphasis was placed on the recycling of used products. In addition, in 1992 the Earth Day in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro was able to influence Earth Day.

In the beginning of the new century, in 2000, a massive campaign was launched to increase the use of renewable energy to prevent climate change on Earth Day. That year around 5000 environmental organizations work in 184 countries to make Dhrantri Divas successful.

In 2009, the world's leaders in Copenhagen failed to sign a public agreement against climate change. As a result, the 2010 Earth Day was very important.

That year, on Earth Day, there is a big gathering with 2,50,000 people in the United States. Moreover, a campaign called A Billion Acts of Green was launched.

Under this campaign, people are encouraged to do various types of work such as planting trees, reducing carbon emission reduction, discontinuing plastic pollution, and eating meat less. The campaign currently has more than 2 billion activities recorded.

Now Earth Day is celebrated as the biggest non-communal day of the world. More than a billion people celebrate the day in the world.

This year, the theme of the Earth Day is to stop plastic pollution. Due to plastic pollution, the soil and water of our environment are being damaged. Plastic has adverse effects on human health.

In order to prevent plastic pollution, the Earth Day authorities have called everyone to take oath to reduce plastic use.

In the year 2021, 50 years of celebration of the Earth Day will be celebrated. With that aim to prepare some new targets for the future is currently underway. It is expected that in this year's 50 years of celebration, this movement will save the lives of the new life.

All of us should work to make this noble initiative of Earth Day a success. Then, we can stand up and stand in front of future generation, we worked to give them a clean, beautiful world gift.
