He says that new drivers should not only be a alert on the main roads but they should also be alert when parking or driving out of the garage. Most accidents happen in the garages because they are not very alert. Paying attention to other drivers, people on foot and the surrounding in the garage will keep you safer. When driving in the garages, it is very important for drivers to take extra precautions.

” The reason why most drivers fight for space in the parking garages it is because of selfishness. It is always good to consider other drivers. This will eliminate selfishness on the road and promote road ethics and love for fellow drivers.” He notes.

If a driver can walk for a few minutes, they should park far away from the door of the garage. You will benefit from not having to fight other drivers for the closer spot. When you are about to leave, it will be more convenient to be far away from the main entrance and be a able to reverse out of the spot calmly instead of being on pressure with a line of cars behind you.

Moses says that drivers should always use a car horn. Drivers should not be afraid to use it. If it is properly used, it can promote safety in the parking garages. Use it as the warning device that you are approaching the garage. Tell the driver getting out from the parking spot to wait their turn and the pedestrians in the garage. If other drivers do not hear you, gently tap on the horn. They will be able to slow down thus avoiding accidents.

He adds that new drivers should always be sober when going to the parking garages. Some drivers go in the parking garages very drunk and end up parking in wrong places thus causing chaos and theft and they end up losing their property or even costing their lives. Every time drivers drive to the parking garages, they should always drive with caution. Be aware of your surroundings and you will be able to get in and out of parking garages and busy parking lots safely.

“I will never forget the time I had an argument with the fellow driver in the parking garage in Kampala. He cracked my car when he was reversing to get out of the garage. I was late for my meeting which was 8am because of the argument. I forgave him and life continued.’’ Says John Byamukama, a motorist and a business man in Kampala.

He adds that some new drivers do not have permits because they have never gone through professional driving training. Reversing becomes a problem causing some accidents in the garages. Before new drivers become excited about parking in public garages, they should perfect their driving including reversing for the sake of safety and their lives.

Byamukama also says that drivers should always mind their shoes before going to the public garage especially women who are often targets of thieves and worse predators in a parking garage. You can change your shoes before you pick up your car to the garage. You will be able to run if you see something suspicious.
