Alex boded a vehicle to Alantu, in Ura Local Government. He was prepared to start life all over again since Mike had taken everything they both toiled for together. The thought of where to start couldn't let him be. He thought about how much time and energy he had invested in building an empire that Mike now called his. Tears rolled down his cheeks.
"life can be a piece of shit sometimes, but we still need to live it. Crying doesn't mean weakness but a means to ease off tensive burden", a passenger, seated adjacent him whispered without looking at him.
" I'm Patience" , she introduced herself, extending a few bunches of banana.
"thanks, my dear. I've got no appetite for it"
"I'm from a far away Umuoti, ....just wanted to see my cousins in the city" she defined her movement.
"you look so worried but be strong. Life is all about endurance and consistency "
"I read you. Thanks. I'm Alexander Nwaneri ". The conversation was going on well with the ride. It was a very fast ride on a dark express in a bus containing about 14 passengers with mixed sexes.
Immediately, they climbed a bridge whose water was flowing with vicious energy, then heading towards the other end of the very bridge, an evil bird flew and perched on their wind screen. The driver did everything thing he could to make it fly away, but to no avail. As soon as they got to the very center of the bridge, one of the front tyres burst with a great sound. The car lost control, the driver gripped the stirring but the car was uncontrollably accelerating. He stepped on the brakes, they failed. There were crowd of shouts in the vehicle, everybody shouted any name that came up but all the noises were rather making the driver to get confused, the car hit head on with an opposite coming lorry, and broke through the bridge banister and went into the flowing water at the base of the bridge.
The scream was reducing as the water started swallowing the vehicle from the back boot. Very gradually, there was no vehicle seen as the water had covered it up. The driver of the lorry was standing, staring at the flowing water. For him, all the souls had gone. He stood for some more seconds only to see a figure swimming across. Quickly, he rushed to assist, it was Patience, she was brutally wounded but fate granted her life. She was gasping for air, since all of them had drunk more than just enough water when their vehicle was swallowed completely.
" I have to take you to the hospital, since you're the only person that survived ", the lorry driver suggested, extending hands for her to support herself, which she took advantage of and got up.
Patience wasn't happy that all the passengers had lost their precious lives. She was so shocked that she lost Alex, a guy she just met in the vehicle. For her, there was still a belief that all hope hadn't been lost. As she climbed up to the bridge, she was looking back into the dark surfaced water. Gradually, they made their way up to the bridge. As soon as they entered inside a car,
"help! Help!! Help!!! "
A voice rang from far right. It rang continuously.
"Alex! ", Patience thought and got off the car.
"let's go help him, he's one of us", she pleaded continuously and the lorry driver with the help of other travellers helped out.
In that very night, 12 passengers lost their lives. Adaugo was successful in her bloody assignment. The Kingdom of darkness had just enough blood in the covenant pot. Because of this great mission accomplished, Adaugo was promoted to level 7.
In the same way as the earth, hierarchy exists in the kingdom of darkness. Demons are promoted on the basis of their hardwork. There are usually promotional scale ranging from 1 to 20. Demons on level 1 are usually called imps while those in level 20 are called principalities. Those in level 13 to 16 are called masters while those in level 19 are called grand masters.
In the kingdom of darkness, any demon who refuses to execute its duties as assigned by a principality is usually called infidel. All infidels are put in a bondage, they're imprisoned with maximum sufferings. Majority of them were put in chains and punished with chronic starvation. Adaugo wasn't ready for imprisonment or any kind of punishment rather she was determined to reach the level of principality.
Adaugo may carelessly spare a woman but she vowed never to spare any man. Reason would unfold soon. It was because of Alex that she caused a full loaded bus to perish. It was a miracle that Alex and Patience survived and their journey intercepted in a hospital.
After they were treated in that very night, the doctor insisted that they pass another night in the hospital so that their x-ray results would come out together with other laboratory investigations. They agreed to pass yet another night.
Every thing was going well till the sun set, great darkness was approaching with unusual signs that showed that the very night was actually not for humans but for demons .
" I must not fail this time" Adaugo thought and frowned.
"you look troubled!? ", Mike asked as he observed the sharp change of mood on her face.
"I'm fine, my love. Just felt a sharp ache on my head. I'll be fine, trust me", she seductively said, brightening up and kissing Mike all over.
While event was unfolding, Mike had already proposed to marry Adaugo, they both now slept in the same room and on the same bed yet Mike never knew that he was living with a ghost that died 12 years ago, buried and was forgotten in Umuoti Village.
Immediately it was 12 midnight,...................
