Short Stories : The Parable of the Turtle and the monkey

This parable is created by Philippine National Hero Jose Rizal before he did created Noli Me Tangere and El Felibusterismo.
I am translating in a simplier way so non-filipino can understand them. I am happy to share it since it has been a treasured story and that you can learn values from it. This story has been retold by many authors and already been published by many textbook so students can read them.

The monkey and the turtle

Monkey and Turtle are both friends. The Turtle is very kind and hospitable while monkey is wise and joker. One day the two of them are given a bowl of noodles by their friend Aling Muning. When the two are walking the turtle told the monkey if they can eat the noodles. The monkey insisted that there might be poison on the noodles, and so the turtle smell the noodles telling the monkey that it does not smells bad and that Aling Muning would not give them a poisonous food because they are friends.

And so monkey tells the turtle if he can eat the noodles first to check if it is not poisonous , and so the turtle agreed. The monkey did eat all the noodles. The monkey tells the turtle that he is very sorry that he did eat all the noodles leaving nothing for the turtle. Since the turtle is very kind , he forgive the monkey.

The next day when the two friends walking near the river, the turtle saw a broken banana tree. The turtle tells the monkey is they can get the broken tree in the river and let them plant it so they can eat its fruit. The monkey tells the turtle if they can split the broken tree since the monkey do like to plant the tree as well in his backyard. The monkey inform the turtle if he can get the top part which has already leaves on it since he is too lazy to maintain it , and so the two split the broken banana into two parts, the top part with leaves is given to the monkey while the lower part is given to the turtle with only roots and trunk on it.

And so both of them did go to their respected backyards and plant their part. Both of them maintained their banana plant but sadly monkey's plant was destroyed while the turtle did grow better and even have fruits in it.

One day the monkey did paid a visit on turtle in his backyard and saw that turtle's planted tree did grow taller and have fruits on top. And so the monkey insisted if they can eat the fruits , since the turtle is too short, he did agree and let the monkey get the fruits. Why the monkey is on top of the tree he did eat all fruits leaving no share for the turtle. The monkey tells to the turtle that he is very sorry that he cannot avoid it because he is too hungry, after that the monkey did sleep on the top of the tree.

While the turtle is very angry he did put torns around the banana tree and so when the monkey wakes up he pleaded the turtle if he can remove all the torns so he could go down safely.Minutes later rain drops did fall and so the turtle tells the monkey tht he will be leaving , and so the turtle did get into the house of Aling Muning to take shelter on the rain while the monkey was all wet because of the heavy rain.

The monkey has no choice but to go down and so he did go down and was really hurt by the torns set up by the turtle.And so the monkey is thinking a revenge on the turtle.

One day the monkey did see the turtle in the jungle and the monkey approached the turtle angrily telling him that he will slice him into pieces , after that the turtle did hide in his shell telling the monkey that he cannot slice him because he has a very solid shell. The monkey tells the turtle that he will burn him into the fire, again the turtle tells the monkey that he cannot be burned because his shell can withstand the heat of the fire. After that the monkey thinking if he can drown the turtle into the sea, and so the monkey tells the turtle that he will drown him to the sea, and then the turtle tells the monkey that he does not know how to swim and he is really afraid , but deep inside the turtle is laughing.

And so out of revenge the monkey did throw the turtle into the sea while having an evil laugh, after that the monkey was so shocked that the turtle did swim faster that he walks in the land. The turtle tells the monkey that he is been tricked and laughing while swiming far from seashore.

And so the monkey did walking in pale and painful because he was been tricked by a friend. After that the monkey did change himself and does not tricked anyone in the jungle.And so the two friends didn't see each other again.

Final Thoughts

We should learn to respect others and do not do to them what you don't want them to do on to you.
