Photos from the Blind School, New Delhi
This was a very humbling experience. I was volunteering at an Arts Fair that is a very popular event on the social calendar of the New Delhi social elite, called the "Blind School Diwali Mela" translating to Blind School Diwali Fair (Mela = Fair, Diwali is one of our major festivals). Thousands attend every year, but surprisingly, the school itself seems rather insulated from the blatant commercialisation of its name, and largely ignored by the organisers and those who attend.
Around mid-day I took a break and wandered off with my camera, eventually finding my way into a classroom, where I saw something rather bittersweet - a group of blind and partially blind schoolchildren trying to blow bubbles against the sun. I could try and describe all the things you can feel in a moment like that, but it would be futile. I'll leave you with the images instead. I ended up calling the series "bubbles".
