I was taking a walk today, and while I was walking, I saw this lady who was walking too. I really was in the mood and my day started quite well, so I said happy holidays, merry christmas to her. She answered, "christmas is for rich people, you spend more money than you have just for one normal day, I just want to thank god that the ones I love are alive". It really broked my heart, not because that wasn't the answer that I was expecting, but because she looked so sad.
She looked like someone who got used to "christmas being a normal day". I didn't asked nothing else to her because I didn't want her to feel like she owes me an explanation. She really made me think.

When christmas is near I spend a lot of money on gifts. She made me realise that it shouldn't be about gifts and spending a lot of money. I think this year my christmas is going to be pretty simple. Im not going to spend much, I'm just going to spend some real time with my family. I never thought that someone would say something like that to me one day!
A little bit of candy and cookies for these lovely kids, and I think that it would be s top Christmas for them. Good luck to you and your family ... Following to you!

I think that Christmas is for everyone. The problem is that the trade sells a Christmas image that does not exist.

The principle....everyday is Christ-mas.
If one may one may add to the resulting dialogue. It depends on ones attitude toward Christ whether any happiness is experienced on Christ-mas or any other day. We are privileged to have a day to reflect on God's gift to us of His Son, Jesus Christ....and if you are rich...or poor....that is to each his own life before God....not whether people approve of your choices.
For God loved the world(mankind) so much, that He gave His uniquely born Son that anyone who believes on Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Faith alone in Christ alone for salvation.

We've spent the last couple couple of Christmas season volunteering at the local wayside Christian mission. We (myself, wife and two daughters) no longer make a big deal out out of out of the materialistic commercialism that has infiltrated the idea of Christmas. We have a much better time serving up food and engaging with our fellow man than we would stressing out about buying buying a bunch of crap and hoping we didn't forget anyone in the family.
It's sad that commercialism has driven people to think in monetary terms only when supposedly celebrating the birth of Jesus.
(Yes, fully aware most historical scholars believe he wasn't born the 25th of Dec. and the multitude of pagan connotations and traditions that go along with it.)
That is amazing, Good job ! It is great to volonteer and give back to others ! That is a happy christmas for everyone.
