Return to Orval Abbey
Here is product one of the best Belgian Trappist
Orval brewery , located within the grounds of the Abbey, was created in 1931 to finance the huge project of rebuilding Orval. The first brewmaster, Pappenheimer, is at the origin of the recipe.
BEER TASTE UNIQUE
True to his bitter and fruity character, Orval beer has become a true reference in the exclusive world of authentic Trappist beers.
Orval beer is characterized by a high fermentation and a maturing period that give it its complex fruity taste.
The first monks to settle in Orval arrived in southern Italy in 1070.
March 9, 1132, seven Cistercian monks arrived at Orval, with their head Constantin. Monks and canons were united in a single community, and employed immediately to adapt the buildings to the Cistercian usages. The new church was completed before 1200.
The monastery was born a gesture of gratitude:
Matilda widow, who accidentally dropped his wedding ring in the fountain of the valley began to beg God, and immediately a trout appeared on the surface of the water, carrying in its mouth the precious ring.
Mathilde then exclaimed: "Truly, this here is a gold Val!" (in french "Vraiment, c'est ici un Val d'or -> Orval reversed) and she decided to found a monastery in this blessed place.
There is a shortage of Orval. The abbey, despite producing over 70,000 hectoliters, no longer able to meet demand that is growing! The Orval today is a beverage that is worth gold. This consumer product is increasingly difficult to find or so at a very high price.
To consume with moderation! Cheers !
