Chapter 1
'Sunmi's P.O.V'
"Sunmisola,get up now. It's Eight am already!"
My mom screamed right into my right ear.
I groaned before standing up. I hate Monday
mornings,that stupid feeling is always there. I
walked sluggishly into the bathroom the whole
family share. I pick up my brush,applied
toothpaste and brushed my teeth with my eyes
closed. I washed my face and headed out to the
sitting room.
My parents and siblings were already eating
breakfast. I peeped into their plates,it's ogi and
akara (cornmeal and fried bean cakes), my
favorite.
I smiled sheepishly. "Good morning Dad, good
morning Mom"
"How was your night?" My dad asked curtly.
"Fine sir!" I replied as I pulled a chair back to sit
down.
"Toyo,pass me the flask" I called out to my kid
sister.
"Toyo,don't pass anything to her. You knew we
had to go out early today,yet you still woke up
late right? Leaving your maid to sort out the
dishes and make breakfast for you" my mom
scolded, her hand in the air.
I sighed. "Mom,I'm so sorry. I didn't know that it
was this late. In fact I don't know why I
overslept."
She chuckled then frowned. "You know that's all
you ever do,give excuses. Keep sleeping like a
pig,when you get to school,I wonder how you will
attend classes"
I pouted my lips, looking down. Trust Mom to
insult me so early in the morning.
"Hey Sweetheart, leave my baby alone. Sunmi,eat
your food."
I smiled and winked at my dad. "Thanks Dad!"
"Spoil her,you know. It's none of my business!"
Mom added before standing up. "Toyo and
Junior,get up. You are late for school"
I looked up at her. "Mom,are you dropping them
off?"
"Yes,my car have a little problem but I will drop
them at school. By the way,when you are
done,make sure you arrange the whole house
before you come over to the shop!"
"Okay Ma" I say sharply as they all made their
way out of the house. Soon my dad also left the
house,giving me a soft kiss on my cheek.
I finished eating,packed the plates to the kitchen
to wash. After that,I cleaned the whole house
then went to take my bath.
I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. I keep
getting fatter and it's annoying, all my friends are
so fit but I am the ugly one with fat everywhere.
Maybe that is why I am the only one who haven't
had a boyfriend at the age of 19.
I quickly put on my dress,trying to ignore all the
flaws on my body. I have to go help my Mom at
her shop.
My parents go through so much so that my
siblings and I could have everything we want. We
are not rich at all,but at least we are living
comfortable. I just got admission into the
prestigious university of Ilorin to study
accountancy, it made my parents so proud and
they are trying hard to provide me with everything
I need.
I walked out and hailed a cab,we stay in the quiet
part of Olorunsogo street in osun state. I arrived
at my Mom's shop at Oke gada.
As soon as she saw me,she started waving. I
walked fast into the store.
"Ooh,Sunmi, thanks for coming. I need your help
right now."
"Alright Mom,what should I do?"
We worked until it was dark,My dad brought Toyo
and Junior to the shop,and also assisted us.
We left the shop around 9,Toyo and Junior were
asleep already. I covered them with the blanket in
the car. We got home and I lay them in the
bedroom.
My mom and Dad called me into the sitting room
and asked me to sit down. I sat down wondering
what they have to say.
My dad coughed and started the conversation.
"Sunmisola!"
"Yes,Daddy!" I answered abruptly.
"You know you are now a big girl"
I smiled quietly.
"But you should know who a big girl is,a big girl
is one who always think of home,she is
constantly in aware of who she is,she doesn't live
a fake life just to impress others. She face her
studies with her mind always on her goals. She
won't let anything or anyone bring her down.
That's who a big girl is."
I blushed widely,knowing fully well what he
means.
"So you are going to be a big girl from now
henceforth. Let the world see your
worth,sweetheart. You are going to school now
and you need to be very careful,okay?"
I nodded my head,my eyes filled with tears.
"So you will go shopping with Emma tomorrow to
get all you need. Make sure you buy the
necessary things you know you need." My mom
emphasized.
"Alright mom"
"I will give you thirty thousand tomorrow to buy
some things,okay?" My dad queried
"Yes Dad,thanks Dad.thanks mom. I really
appreciate it. I'm so lucky to be born as your
daughter." I confessed kneeling down.
They both smiled. "Welcome dear. Go to bed now"
"Goodnight" I yelled and ran to my room. As I laid
down beside my siblings,I smiled to myself
knowing my life is going to be better.
