RE: Writing workshop volume 10: Perspective and point of view (POV) in fiction writing

in #story7 years ago

Great work! I struggle with POV a lot, particularly in the first draft when I'm more concerned about getting the story done and emptying my brain than I am about the finer details. A good writer will do as you say, going back to re-read it and make sure it feels right and makes sense.

A lot of what 'feels right' comes from being an experienced READER, so you know when things 'feel wrong' and as a writer you can then adjust it.

Great post!

Thanks @negativer! I'm so glad that even though you're a very experienced writer, you still got something from reading my post. And thank you for helping to make my point, that even highly experienced writers find that they need to edit for POV.

I think your approach is the best; go ahead and write the story, without fretting and fine tuning along the way. Then go back with your editor brain on. Trying to edit while you write can hamper the creative process. That's a great topic for a future workshop post!

Ditto that - well said, Neg!
