The man

11th floor apartment. Studio.

The worst kind of lodging for an aesthetically oriented individual.
You open the door to a dimly lit room. Its dimensions obscured by lingering tobacco smoke.

Not much could be considered more out-of-place than the furniture adorning this dwelling.

Dark-oak book shelves lined all four walls with hundreds of leather bound books.
Besides the volumes and the little bathroom that could be mistaken by a closet, a firm desk and a flimsy mattress stood awkwardly towards the shelves of the back wall.
The computer screens on the desk perfectly aligned to keep the man’s gaze in sight of the door at all times.

Unfortunately, genius is usually accompanied by vice. And this man’s vice boils down to a blatant lack of trust.

Visitors were obviously not welcome. Why would they be? There was no place for visitors to sit. And though the acquisition of a chair is a simple endeavor, this was an expense he had no mind for.

His character may remind of an old man, set in his way of life.
That however, is just the result of a discovered and applied method to steady progress in life.
Routine is discipline. Discipline leads to results. Half this man’s genius was his strict, unfaltering discipline.

A wooden pipe with a curved mouthpiece with some of the finest tobacco encased in a leather bag. The man had his own personal tobacco grower. One luxury he was more than happy to afford.
One firm pinch from the flakey tobacco, placed into the wooden bowl.
A flash of light accompanied by the raspy sound of combustion.
Three long drags combined with a concise swirl of hand.

A perfectly lit bowl of tobacco.

Oh and how this man consciously gloated over that fact every time he succumbed to his addiction.
His personality was of the kind where vices are logically reframed into virtue.

Years of his youth had been spent in educational institutions - familiarizing himself with the laws of nature to the point of exceptional understanding.

The combination of genius and emotional disturbance often breeds an interesting tale. Some men are born for songs and some for hard labor. But his work involved the singing of formulas for the description of his discoveries.

But more about him later.
