The Lost Cities of Central And South America - City of The Caesars (La Ciudad De Los Césares)

in #story8 years ago (edited)

It has been called by many different names. Some call it the City of The Caesars, while the others call it the City of Patagonia, Elelín or Trapalanda.
All these names mean the same - mystical city in South America that allegedly lies somewhere in the region of Patagonia.

The name of the city probably comes from the expedition of Francisco César who, in 1526, as one of the first Europeans, was sent to the West and discovered the Andes. It is said to be located in the valley of the Andes, between Chile and Argentina, between two mountains, but so far it has not been identified. Although the reports about the city have been circulating around the world for hundreds of years, so far there has been no found evidence that could confirm its existence.

The Search

In 1766, Jesuit José García Alsue attempted to find it, while exploring Queulat National Park in Chilean region of Aysén. During the period of colonisation many adventurers tried to follow his footsteps, but all the attempts in finding Ciudad De Los Césares had failed. The only clue is still quite ambiguous information given by those who have supposedly seen it.

It Appears And Then Disappears

The City was described as thriving and prosperous, full of gold, silver and diamonds. Although, sometimes they say about its charm, as well as its curse - the city suddenly appears and then unexpectedly disappears. Apparently, those who accidentally see this wondrous city, soon forget about this experience.

The are many alleged inhabitants of the city. Some people claim that they are Spanish sailors who survived the sinking of their ship in the Straits of Magellan, the fugitives who survived the battle of Battle of Curalaba, ghosts, Patagonian giants or ancestors of the Inca Empire.

Is there any grain of truth in this legend?
Nowadays, the story about the City of The Caesars is considered to be a legend that the natives told European sailors, and which probably refers to the great Incan kingdom.

Because of the search for such lost city, we discovered the Kogis of Columbia! Great article and pictures. Namaste :)

Yes I have heard of this. If I were braver I would go and try to find it myself. It should be a lot easier to find with modern satellite technology though.

You would think so but have you seen how dense some of those jungles are and how tall some of those trees are? It literally could have been swallowed up by the jungle and the only way it will ever be found is if you literally stumble upon it. It would be awesome to find... :)

I don't that there is much of a jungle in Patagonia. I think that it has more temperate climate.
And yeah going there would be awesome. It looks absolutely stunning!

Actually it´s temperate rainforest, much thicker than tropical rainforest. Further the geography in the region is very dynamic. During the last years two towns literally disappeared from the map. Chaitén was buried under the ashes of a volcano ten years ago. And last month Villa Santa Lucia was buried under a glacier which got loose of a mountain. Have I mentioned that most mountains in the region are not even named yet? By the way the glacier on the picture is not the Cordillera Paine, but the Hanging Glacier in the Queulat National Park. The Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa is a great place to stay if you want to visit this area. The Cordillera Paine mentioned beyond the picture is located about 900 km further south and much more accessible than the Queulat National Park.

That's very interesting. I'm glad that you have found my post over a year later :-)

It makes me want to go to Patagonia for sure!

Me and thecryptofiend felt the same :-)

I really enjoy a lot this new series of posts. I have never said it. Now it is done ^^

Thank you. I feel honoured to hear it from you ;-)
