Journal – Undisturbed Dog Walking

in #story7 years ago

Dog and I were walking along and ran across a pile of clothing, an empty pack of raisins, and some shoes. I wondered a bit about what would make someone take off their shoes and cloths and leave them on the path like that. A few weeks ago somebody broke out of jail around here and evaded capture for a while by removing their cloths so the dogs couldn’t track them. The police did catch them eventually hiding in a tree in their underwear. That was clear over on the other side of town though, so I’m not sure if there was any connection.

Cloths and Shoes on the Path

There were some pretty fall leaves on the path so I took a picture of them too thinking it might be useful for texturing in an art project.

Leaves on path

On the way back, dog and I ran across a rather odd looking fellow. He seemed somewhat down and out and had that street person look. He was carrying a strange cloth covered box on his shoulder. He shuffled along avoiding all eye contact. I kind of left him alone undisturbed, I’m a bit of odd character myself and figured perhaps he wasn’t feeling very friendly plus he was making an unusual chortling noise.

“What an odd noise, at least I don’t talk to myself that way,” I said to Dog.

“Yes you do,” said Dog.

“Well, not all the time or around most people,” I said.

“But you do have arguments,” said Dog.

“No I don’t Dog, sometimes I ask myself directions. Perhaps I might get upset if I can’t find the answer. But I don’t argue much,” I said.

“And your always walking along with a big smile and half the time you mumble to yourself and burst out laughing,” said Dog.

DOG, things are funny! Most people don’t have my odd sense of humor. Who else would laugh at my jokes!?!” I said.

“Things are funny? What things?” asked Dog.

“You know, ‘stuff’. Like dandelions and the green stuff that grows in cracks of the sidewalk,” I said. Dog looked at me with a puzzled look. “Oh never mind Dog.”

“You do know there was a chicken in the box under the cloth, don’t you?” asked Dog.

“Oh, that makes sense,” I said.

I wandered along thinking that some poor farmer around here must be missing a lot of chickens and all this time was blaming the raccoons. But then I thought, no that chicken was sounding really happy. I can’t imagine the guy was going to eat it. I bet it was his pet chicken. You can get baby chicks down at the store for next to nothing and they eat grass, weeds and seeds. It would be really easy to take care of one when walking around the town and you would get some eggs.

Chickens are really cute and if they are raised by humans they enjoy sitting on your lap. My friend’s mom let me hold her pet chicken once.

We passed by the cloths and shoes on the way back and it looked like the shoes had been moved. “I wonder what happened here?” I asked Dog.

“I wonder if there are any raisins left, raisins are a big clue,” Dog sniffed around. “Nope, no raisins or chicken bones either.”
