Sell Your Freedom Observation: The Japanese man question?

in #story6 years ago (edited)

How many times have you been asked the question, "How much $$ would make you ….?".

It was a normal day at work, just having some lunch with my colleague and a conversation on the latest movies and how good the actors/actress performed.

The conversation started with the amount of effort required and the years of commitment it takes to film a movie, and soon we ended up talking about the millions of dollars the actors/actress would earn depending on their status and role.

From this conversation is how the "Japanese man question" started, the scenario and rules are as below:
A Japanese business man comes to your company for business, and you and your team have taken the liberty of showing him around for the week.

At the end of the trip he says to you, "Michael, I really like you. I would like you to come with me back to Japanese for a year." however this is not a simple job offer for a year, he is seeking more than just a business partner and the terms are below:

  1. You must act as a couple with him for the duration of 365 days, which means in public you should be holding hands where appropriate and act as how a normal couple would.

  2. All expenses will be paid for the duration of the contract.

  3. No physical intimacy are required other than holding hands in public, and sleeping in the same bed, but you do not have to do anything you are not comfortable with.

  4. After 365 days, your contract term will be finished and the agreed amount of money will be released to you in full.

  5. After the end of the contract, you will receive no further communications with the Japanese man and you are free to go anywhere in the world.

  6. At any time you can terminate this contract with no penalties however, no money will be paid to you if that is the case.

So after the terms are set the question ended up being how much money would it take for you to consider signing this contract? One of my colleagues said something around the 3 million mark.

Someone in my group made the point that, when profession actors take a role it could take years to finish a film, in return they could get millions in salary. So would this be like taking an acting job for 1 year maybe? I don’t know… Would 3 million dollar be too much or maybe not enough for 1 year of your life?
