Have you ever seen a jet powered fire engine?

Things were going a bit slow in the Power Plant Bay at Ohakea. This is where we service the engines of New Zealand jet fighters.

I was the boss of the Power Plant Bay at the time when the fire section was issued with new fire engines.

The fire section was having troubles with the gearboxes in the new engines, and the only place that had a crane that could lift the weight of the gearboxes was the Power Plant Bay.

We thought we would help the fire section out by transplanting a J52 jet engine out of an A4K Skyhawk into the fire engine.

After all, they wouldn’t need a gearbox, faster speed over the ground so they could get there quicker, all round a good idea we thought.

That's a brilliant idea! Would've loved to see this thing in motion though! :D

Haha, that's a mad idea. It'd be a true fire engine, causing a lot more fires on its way to the destination!

It works, the Auxtralians put an Avon jet engine on the back of a truck ,plus some drag chutes for brakes , lined it up with the runway , started the engine and away it went , fastest truck you ever saw

I'd love to see them deploy the rocket truck on the streets of Mumbai :)

It would need a large cow catcher on the front and lots of tow trucks at the ready. Be good fun though ,
