Everything That I've Learnt from Fishing - [A blog about myself]
My name is Kayyam and I live in Mauritius.. I'm currently a student of the University of Mauritius and I am 21 years old.. I'm kinda carefree and have one hell of an attitude.. I'm good until I'm messed with. So yeah this is me, Basically..
I live really close to the sea, like, 5 minutes by car.. Since I was a kid, I loved the sea and learnt how to swim on my own.. I used to accompany my dad when he went fishing and I started to grow some love for this activity. Yet, I always had this fear of the water; Not exactly the water but the creatures within.. Trust me, there are so much you do not know about the sea and the different species that lives within..
I'm sure we all go through ups and downs in our life and we all have things to do to get over; Some go reckless, some some or drink, some go for a ride and some do nothing. Well, I can say that I do all, and I'll share my perspective with you all..
I go fishing with a friend who lives nearby. I'd give him a call in the morning and 2 hours later, we'll end up on the seashore looking for baits.. So basically, I get to drive, which I really enjoy doing(I'm also a car guy). We end up on the beach, light a cigarette and talk about our expectations of fish activity of the day. We walk alone the seashore and look for baits, which we catch using a big net or a cast net.. And we find a spot where we can fish in silence..
This is me, 3 days ago, with over 20 pounds of fish in my hands..
Let's get back to the title now!
- The first thing I've learnt from fishing is to be patient. I'm kinda hot tempered and I hate to wait. I can easily lose my nerves if I am picking up someone and they make me wait for more than 5 minutes. But fishing taught me to wait and be quiet. I've waited for more than 2 hours to catch a fish in the past and this really helps in my everyday life; I've learnt to be passive to stuffs that used to phase me out..
- So now that I have to wait for a fish to get hold of my bait, I have nothing to do. In this time, I think a lot about literally everything; My life, My studies, My future, My love life, My different paths that i could take and yeah sometimes I do think about Steemit xD .. I've learnt to reflect on life and the different possibilities it offer..
- One thing that I really like is that I am slowly overcoming my fear for the sea. I can now walk in the water in complete darkness even if i'm scared to do so. I've walked on a fish which gives you an electric shock when you step on it about 3 weeks ago. Trust me, it was painful but I'm glad I did that even though it was an accident and i couldn't see the fish as it hid under the sand. The friend I go fishing with knows a lot about the sea and I am learning very fast. There are urchins that you shouldn't walk on, There are fishes/creatures that can hurt you or poison you badly which should be avoided, There are corals that can open up your feet when walked on and much more. Trust me, this might sound scary but the sea is really fascinating. If I have to go reckless, I'd do things that scares me; and that's the sea..
- Another thing that pleases me is the adrenaline rush when your line is being pulled by a fish. If you get too excited and pull the line too quickly to get the hook stucked to the fish's mouth, you'll lose it. You must let it take your line for some seconds and then pull as hard as you can to let the hook get stuck.. Now the thing is, If it's a small fish, you can bring the line fast and you'll have a little catch. But if it's a big fish(greater than 2 pounds), you should know how when to pull the line and when to let the fish pull so as not to break the line.. That's an important lesson learnt here. Consider being in a discussion. What happens when both sides debate? We end up in an even bigger discussion. And what happens when each side talks in their respective turn? we come to an agreement. It's the same here. When the fish pulls, let it take the line. When it starts to get tired, you bring the line. This process can go on multiple times but eventually, you'll get the fish to shore. Another lesson about patience I'd say.
- I've also learned about the different baits to use and the different fishes that live in the sea. I also know which fish eat wish bait. I know what fish can be caught in the day and what fish can be caught at night. I know how the moon affects the sea level and how to fish for a specific fish just by waiting for the moon to set. I've learned that the best time to look for shooting stars is at 2 to 3 a.m.. I've learned that I could stay awake for more than 48 hours and still be fit to fish. I've learned that drinking water is really essential, even when you don't eat. Most of all, I've learnt that you can come home with a lot of fishes and you can also return with an empty hand.
Just like life, I've learnt beautiful lesson from fishing. You cannot always win, but you can maximize your chances of winning. I'd suggest everyone to go fishing if they get the chance.. You'll learn a lot
My biggest catch so far(7.5 Pounds)
Great job with the photos and story! Very engaging. I'm happy to get to know you a little!
Thanks mate ^^
VERY NICE AMAZING
Thank you buddy ^_^
Great post man! Awesome to see the inside life and how fishing can help you be calmer and more patient. Good Stuff!
You should try fishing if you get the chance buddy, You won't regret..
Thanks for passing by ♡
I applaud your learning. One thing I would say. Wear something on your feet! Particularly on coral and among some rather horrid sea things. Here in Australia we have what is known as a stonefish and stepping on one is deadly. Shoes on please - otherwise I am going to start getting all grandmotherly and worrying about your feet. Take care. :)
Thank you for your concern.. Here as well we have the stone fish and i'm really scared of that xD
There's a lot to be scared of about the sea but i take it as a challenge..
And i do wear something in my feet when i have to walk on corals. Thank you for the piece of advice though ♡
