COMPLIMENT

How complimenting her landed me a ban note.

She stepped in into our space. We were two boys and a girl.

My guy complimented her hair. He said it looked like the hair of the lady on Versace's logo. He tried to drive home his point by describing the picture but a horrible stare surged from the girl. We didn't realize until later.

On my end, I added (the moment the other guy voiced his likeness for her weave):

"That's true o. I liked your hair from last week but didn't get the chance to tell you because you were busy doing God's work at *****"

The two of us, guys, got into trouble afterwards. We were told by her 'heads up'' not to talk to her again.

The other girl was confused and surprised too.

I don't know what angered her from the other guy's description but my own was misinterpreted.

She thought I was saying something in line with ridiculing her for wearing the same hair since seven days ago.

When I contemplated this matter, I wondered what should be a case out of 'the other hand' of my words.

Does it even make sense for a millennial to change hair every less-than-seven days?

So what's "ridiculing" in what I said?

I'm usually not ready for such drama and so to clear things up, I sent her a message via whatsapp reiterating what I said and intended to mean. I didn't hint on the other angle since it wasn't my intent from the beginning.

Then she replied:

"Nawaooo, please I'm not upset, it's ok"

Whatever made her arrive at that, I ended the text by saying that I claimed responsbility for my words and hereby took them back.

What this thought me today is that, I won't for the life of me EVER compliment this girl. Even if the saints in the church took turns to, I'll be fine being an exception.

Imagine wishing her 'wedlock' and she turns around to say you wished her 'weird luck'
