Rephael took his first few steps toward Ka, the jinni. Suddenly he heard sonic booms. In succession, missiles fired from unknown areas struck Ka and the ground around him, or it. Ka roared his defiance and called out every vile curse he thought in his rage.

In the barrage, Rephael continued to walk forward and from all directions he saw Chinook choppers approach toward Ka. He turned and looked. One landed above the house and infantry ran out the back. They spread out, moved across the lip of the house. Four came running down the path, two were carrying bundles. One ran into the house.

“Hey there son,” A general said. His name tag said Coats. “By order of the President we are evacuating all civilians from the area of battle. “The President wanted to know if you would take the oath of a soldier.”

“Yeah. I suppose so.” Rephael answered as the sonic booms multiplied.

“Get him dressed while he takes the oath.” The General Coats ordered then he said to Rephael, “Raise your right hand soldier.”

Rephael raised his right hand holding the box of salt while the other two soldiers stripped him of his robes and thongs. Then they began to dress him. The General said, “Repeat after me,

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
“Excellent Private Rephael Weeks, due to national need in a time of crisis you are being given a field promotion to Captain by order of the President of the United States, do you accept?”

Rephael looked down, they had his socks underwear and T-shirt on, “Yes.”

“Repeat after me,

"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

“I don’t have an SSAN,” Rephael said.

“Just say your name,” General Coats said and began to recite the oath. Rephael did so as rank of Captain in the Army.

“Congratulations Captain,” General Coats said as Tom, Mom, and Elizabeth came running out of the house. “You should be able to put your salt container in there on the LBE. Would you like another weapon besides the 9 mm?”

“No General,” Rephael said as he put the salt in the LBE pouch.” When he was through they shook hands. The General said, “Good luck Captain Weeks your orders are to destroy whatever that is.”

“Ka, or Prince of the Rock, his actual name is Asmodeus.” Rephael answered.
“Is he strack?” General Coats asked the two dressers.

“Yes sir.” They responded.

“Right I thought it was Satan myself.” General Coats said to Rephael, “Now, once you determine the time is right, say to your men, ‘Fire for Effect’. Other than that, they know what to do.”

“Yes, General, Can I go now?”

“Go get’em Tiger,” General Coats saluted. Rephael mimicked him. He started to walk forward, that is in the direction of Ka. Rephael smiled because this was a hell of a lot better than facing the jinni in a robe and flip flops.

The General and his aides ran up the hill after Tom, Mom, and Elizabeth. Sonic booms racked the air. Eventually Ka was able to determine the he was under an attack by missile and they began to blow before they hit him. The incoming missiles still kept his attention. He was not able to advance much. When he did advance, it was a good distance as Ka was huge.

“Do you think this will save you from me mortal? Thou should have bowed down before me. For this defiance, I shall give thee ten thousands horrible deaths.” Ka roared. Then he took flight or rather jumped up in the air instead of stepping. Ka floated.

Ka fired a blast at Rephael and his men but Rephael absorbed it and never stopped moving forward toward Ka. One of his men was gone but the rest had spread out so far that only one was killed.

“You are a puny fool, Asmodeus.” Rephael said. He did not raise his voice because he knew the jinni could hear him. “You should just give up and let me put you back in your demesne from which you were bound.”

“Oh am I.” Ka roared. “So you know my name. Very well, then let me see how you do against this.”

Up in the air, Ka raised his hand. From the ground, from the air, demons appeared, winged and legged, clawed, fanged vile things, “That one is mine.” Ka pointed at Rephael. “Destroy them all. Feast.”

Forward, ever forward, one step at a time, piece held high. Missiles sounding booms struck. Chinooks dropped reinforcements.

Off in the distance, equal points on the compass. In the second wave of the reinforcements, Rephael saw his two counterparts arrive. They held their pieces up just like him. The big question was and Rephael did not know, would Ka drop to the ground again? Did he realize, the army had three of these pieces, not just the one Rephael carried?

Weapons fired across the plain. “Fix bayonets!” He heard a Sergeant order. Ka’s army was almost upon him, his men. “One shot! One Kill!” Someone yelled as one of the things fell.

Rephael was within a mile of Ka above, maybe less. The military struck at Ka in the air. They blanketed the ground in front of the infantry. Dust was everywhere.

“This planet is mine.” Ka began to approach Rephael, “You are mine.”
