RE: The Playground Series: Reality in Fiction: Episode 7 Empathy

in #story8 years ago

I allowed myself extra time on Steemit just to catch up with your series, and I have to say that it was worth it. Wonderfully written, and very engaging. This deserves all the votes it has received so far, and more!

I liked how you framed it in the playground, and how each of the equipment held a different meaning with each theme. The episodic nature of the series did it a lot of justice and it allowed you to explore different situations without relying on previous installments.

You captured the protagonist's thought process so effortlessly. The philosophical conversations and the flirty back and forth with Ijustam was scripted so magnificently. These are, what I believe, the strongest points of the series. The scenes were just so organic, and the way you wrote them transports the reader inside her mind.

I actually read your intro post in the middle of reading the series, so my perspective regarding the potential plot shifted a bit. The Westworld comparison really made me question a lot of presumptions. Similarly, you constrained the characters in a singular area, that served as a figurative (and literal) sandbox to play out their scenes. Although, unlike Westworld, the way you wrote the characters make it so the reader empathizes (see what I did there?) with them in a way that the WW hosts never could. Instead of relying on the mystery that shrouds the whole setting, the conversations and the characterization takes the spotlight.

I couldn't help but chuckle whenever I read the similarities between our stories. You'll get it once I have it up. However, the similarities are just aesthetics. It's funny how different perspectives can be mined from similar settings. Spoiler alert, I do have a chapter that's in a playground (haha!), and it's written in the perspective of a child (way younger, but still).

Great work @dreemit, you have gained a fan in me. I would be looking forward to the next installments of your story! I hope that I would get a chance to read them when they're freshly published :D

Wow. Thank you so much. I want the focus to be on the conversations so I'm glad it's coming across that way :) I actually started this series awhile before I saw WW so there's no intentional correlations :) I really can't wait to read your story, you have such a strong voice and your personality shines through everything you write, I know it's going to be fantastic. That's awesome that you have a playground chapter!
Well I hope I continue living up to this amazing praise! Thanks again :)

Aww, shucks. Here I thought this was a comment exalting your work, now you go around and throw praises my way. Highly appreciated, brother. But, I want to wait and see if the series I have lined up will match expectations. I just try to write from the heart, that's all I've ever known :D

Sister...though i appreciate the endearment! My husband always makes a point to call friends brother as well, I loved watching you and ezzy throw it back and forth, it made me feel right at home ;)

Oh, yes. Right, right! Apologies.. I'm just so used to calling everyone "brother", regardless of gender, that it became a force of habit! I'm glad that an interaction fostered a new interaction. Honestly, that was my initial intent, so I'm really happy that it finally bore fruit!
