SMALL BEGINNINGS

in #story7 years ago

Imagine if there was a plot twist to the story of Jesus' death, such that Jesus needn't be necessarily born to die for our sins.

Rather, after He agrees to be the sacrificial lamb for humans, the heavens immediately open and then a loooong ladder drops straight outta the heavens right unto planet earth. Down here, the Roman soldiers are ready to grab the King's Son to crucify Him.

So, Jesus "follows the ladder"

(Ghanaians will understand this better)

Only this time it’s not to heaven but to earth. As soon as His feet touch the earth, the soldiers grab Him, rip His clothes apart, shove Him around, place the cross on His back and lead Him away to be crucified.

I mean, the main reason why He had to come to earth was to die at a young age of thirty-three years so why not get it over and done with, right? I, for one, would have understood such a happening perfectly. No stress, no hassle, just the main deal mehn, just focusing on the main deal.

Well, we all know that didn't happen. It's laughable, a whooole Son of the Most High God, came to earth as a baby (baby kaafo) and lived through adolescence into adulthood for good thirty-three years to fulfill a purpose He could have fulfilled in just a day. Is it that God likes long things, or, maybe, there’s a mystery to be decoded here?

Well, let's snap out of our imagiNation and take a look around us.

We can all testify to the fact that every adult has once been a child before right? We nourished and nourished and nourished our bodies till bam! they became this tough and fine. Plants too. I mean the huge trees we see now, were once tiny seeds and seedlings. There's even a proverb to that effect. It says, 'great oaks from little acorns grow'. Consider also the great rivers of the world, most of them sourced from just a trickling in a wee location.

The point here is nature has its own way of teaching us great values we sometimes miss. One of them is that, we should not despise small beginnings. We simply should not be afraid to start small.

Small beginnings are so important to God that Jesus had to undergo a small beginning, literally, to achieve the goal of salvation.

Jesus had to go through a process because what we learn through the process will not only help us get to the top but also to stay when we finally do get there. Because He got to start small and went through the process, we get to appreciate the various encounters Jesus had with mankind throughout His life on earth.

Small beginnings are so important to God that even He, the Lord God Almighty, created the world in six good days! C'mon He is Omnipotent, He could have done that in a split second! But no, even in creation He started small and kept adding up, gradually.

How sad it is that we are often afraid to start small!

How sad it is that we all want to flourish but we do not want to go through the process; forgetting that shortcuts are dangerous! How sad it is that we do not value the essence of starting small to the extent that we mock, spite and discourage those who have only started to sprout!

God says in Zechariah 4:10a that, "Do not despise these small beginnings...". Just don't.

You can always start with what you have and build upon it. Starting small is not equal to uselessness. Starting small is not equal to time waste. Starting small is not equal to mediocrity. Small beginnings connote hope. Starting small resounds humility. Starting small and working your way to the top by God's grace will make it worth the success.

Most successful people in society tell us that though they did not have much initially, they were not afraid to start small. They only began with what they had and today they are being celebrated for various feats.

Don’t be afraid to start small.

Start with what you have, engage yourself in the growth process and what may seem small and insignificant today, will be the cornerstone you've been expecting all along. Take a cue from nature; the process by which things develop and grow fully so that you do not despise small beginnings.

God bless you for reading.

Wow. I really love this excerpt. You digested and released it in a fashion no other could have. We often despise our small beginnings and loose the chance to experience greater glory. Imagine if Jesus had abandoned His Task to die and save us from our sins, He wouldnt have had a name above all other names.
