A Brief Dark Trilogy
A Brief Dark Trilogy
Dead Canyon
Echoed sobs betrayed the violence as beast and foe entangled.
The blades pumped in and out, in and out, until they slid from my blood soaked hands. Pink rivulets flowed down my cheeks as salt and iron mixed. I hadn't wanted to kill Rosie. I needed to. She'd gone feral.
I bent low and scooped the lifeless child into my arms. With a deep sigh I strode into the acrid wind. Kreeg was going to pay for leaving us in this wasteland.
Lich Borne
He sought forgiveness for his crimes deep beneath the ruined city. Praying to a pantheon of deities for the souls of multitudes he had never met.
He sought forgiveness for his pride. He had saved his crown but the cost had been high. There was no one left to rule.
Good King Gideon approached the Black Pillars for the second time in as many days. The vaulted cavern smelled of sulfur and rot. Iron and leather, the brave fallen, the not taken were strewn across his path.
The War of Fifty Seasons had drawn to a tragic close. With stolen magic and misguided council Gideon had unleashed that which had not been seen since the division of land and sea.
They had come in packs, spewing forth from this fractured gate. Teeth and fur, black and grey and mottled brown. Long arms reaching, snatching, tearing. They consumed everything.
His foe was vanquished and his people stolen. Aged years in a day, his magic waning, he began his incantation. Powered by grief he would see her again.
Whisper's Law
Cruncher wasn't like Slitherskins. He was deep marrowed, minded brain. Not slinky, wet and
slaughtered.
Screams echoed as the red mist rose. It was slurping, tearing. Cackling Slitherskins. Obscene Slitherskins.
Crunchers captured were huddled, silent. Escaped whimpers and dripping tears. Cruncher loved them because Cruncher loved Whisper and Whisper’s word was law.

Nicely done. I liked this, especially the first one.
Thanks, I appreciate it. I find that sometimes I’ll get a good opening line or thought down on the page and the story goes from there. It’s harder for me to keep my voice if I go much longer than this.
