THE MOST EMBARRASSING DAY AS A FRESHMAN

It was my first year in College. As a freshman, I and my new friends were always together. The first outing we had was to a market, we drank 4 bottles of soft drink. We had an evening lecture; Chemistry 101, had to rush after the outing to get to the class early because I liked sitting in the front of the class. Twenty minutes into the lecture, I heard my tummy rumble. I forgot about my sensitive stomach when I was downing the bottles. I was so pressed, sweat started coming out profusely. My friend felt the restlessness and asked me what was wrong but I knew if I spoke, it would be dangerous for me so I just nodded.

I couldn’t take it longer, I could care less about my pretty crush smiling at the back or the lecturer writing out chemical equations on the board. I stormed out of the lecture room hoping to get to my hostel as fast as I could but I was wrong. You really need to see the way I walked down the lobby, I had to walk slowly so I wouldn’t drop it all there. When I got down the stairs, I discovered it would be a lost cause to get to hostel before I let it all go. Right there, confused and lost, I looked ahead and saw a cocoyam and plantain plantation ahead of me, all that came to me was to just run there like Flash but I had to be discrete because other students pass there.

I got to the side of the plantation and rushed in not caring who was looking. My shirt was terribly soaked with my sweat, I couldn’t hold it anymore. I laid down a cocoyam leaf and went on it. Then the embarrassment came.

Three girls were passing, I could see them but they couldn’t see me. One of them wanted to urinate and entered in. She bent to pee and looked forward. Our eyes were fixed, I was speechless with lots of thoughts running through my mind. Right there, an annoying and disturbing fart came out. I was so embarrassed with myself. She ran out of the plantation. I had to wait for her friends to leave.

I was through before it dawned on me that no water or toilet roll was there. “How will I clean my butt now.” I thought to myself. I had no time to waste, I just used my sparking white handkerchief to clean up and buried it right there. I looked around closely before dashing out to the other side to avoid the girls or anyone that might have heard of my scenario.

As I reached the gate of my hostel, my tummy rumbled again. A 3 minutes-walk from the gate to my hostel turned to over 20 minutes. I had to stand continuously to catch my breath and allow the tummy settle before I took baby steps. My colleagues were not around so no one asked what was wrong.

As soon as I sighted my hostel's block toilet, I ran like a rabbit. Right in the lobby, I pulled off my cloth, dropped my bag and got to the toilet. Finally, something I was familiar with; a water closet. I settled properly to free my tommy and bathed under the shower. I was through before I realized, no towel and my clothes were in the lobby. Then voices came in, my fellow students were back from lectures. I was stark naked and hated people seeing me like that. I peeped through the key hole and saw them walking into their rooms, if only I could leap there and get my clothes.

I stretched a leg out then started walking slowly towards my clothes. As soon as I bent to pick my trousers, someone came out of his room and saw me. He laughed out loud and others came out. Well, I was embarrassed already. I just packed my clothes and bag to my room. I fell flat on my bed. It was the most embarrassing day of my freshman year.
