Sebenarnya, persawahan merah ini adalah fenomena alam. Mengapa bisa terjadi? Sebabnya dikarenakan banyaknya kandungan tembaga dan zat besi di dalam tanah yang sudah megendap ribuan tahun lamanya. Ditambah dengan iklim yang hangat dan lembab, tanah di persawahan tersebut membentuk oksidasi besi secara alami dan kemudian berwarna merah.
