Live and creativity of Michel de Montaigne /part 2/

in #story6 years ago (edited)

Monten creates a mimetically detailed description of his own personality in his series of essays. He does not intend to write a literary work that obeys some strict formal rules. This French Renaissance thinker follows the meanders through which he turns into self-capability in life through the experience of a free person. The writer's efforts to produce texts for himself are a continuation of his zeal for man to build his own morale, form his own social position, choose and assert his aesthetic views. Thanks to his open-minded spirit, Monten builds his prestige as a unique writer who stands above the fierce, ideological and religious struggles of his age. The handwriting of Monten is subject to the in-depth study of his intimate human nature. This study is carried out most thoroughly in the Third Book of the Collection ... But Monten's autobiography can not be described as a autobiography. The author is not obsessed with the concern to present to the offspring as one and the next some definite logic in his personality development. He presents himself in a series of verbal debacles, which are often subject to his current mood or to a reversal of the circumstances in which his self-examination is conducted. Thus, Essays can not be described as a self-portrait of Monten because they can not reveal either their proponent's inclination to pose, or the predisposition of the reader to enter the position of judge of the posing essayist. The collection is addressed to the relatives, relatives, friends and contemporaries of the author to serve as a notebook with useful quotes from the masterpieces, literary or philosophical, created in Antiquity. He could also be perceived as a mirror constantly turned to the author, in which he feels the need to constantly look into the process of his self-knowledge.

With the Essay Collection, Monten establishes an entirely new genre, invented a unique form. He writes essays to get rid of the depressive energy of frustrations, sorrows and mournful humiliations, hypotheses, hymers and misery, of his torment and tendency to melancholy. For him, the essay is a subject, a quote or an anecdote that gives rise to thoughtful bindings of the author with real events and possible occurrences, with an outline / How should it be done? How could I do it? The difficulties of the historical situation are mentioned at once, when the relationship with the monarchs, the social obligations, the prejudices and the contradictions between the already established philosophy of life and reality must be clarified. Then, of course, the critique of the ideals pursued by the author and challenging his illusions and delusions is criticized. In his essay, Monten notes and commented on the response to texts and living people. Through them, we are acquainted with the author's beliefs (Tacitus, Titus Livius, Plutarch, Seneca, Lucretius and Cicero), the life of the ancient philosophers, their popular guides, his attitude to the political treatises written by his contemporaries. It is no secret that Monten takes many ideas from the work of his eminent contemporary, Italian mathematician and philosopher Gerolamo Cardano ,for the vanity of science.

The outburst of rigid public structures in the Renaissance Age explains why then no complete philosophical systems are created. There was a free reflection on life and the universe - not abstract, but life-practical ... In the Renaissance, the thought lives in the form of a direct statement, independent of evidence and based on the individual experience or example where the "bridge" is transferred directly, as in Hamlet, from the worm to Caesar. This is the artistic form of thought: the maxims of Heraclitus, the essays of Monten, the dialogues of Plato, Bruno and Didero ... Her right to truth derives from the specific situation in which it is expressed by the character of the person whose face he is speaking ... . The artist enjoys the ability to understand - he can build from every thought the system of the universe ... This principle in all its clarity and audacity has expressed Monten:"I freely express my opinion / the thought is, above all, . she is subjective for anything, even for what sometimes surpasses my understanding and which does not refer to my competence at all. My opinion in this case is not a measure of things, but only a measure of my eyes. " Or: "Whoever wants knowledge, let him look where he is; at least from the knowledge I would do my profession. Here are my fantasies; through them I give knowledge not about things, but about myself ... Do not pay attention to the questions I am concerned, but to the way I make them clear.
