TRIALS OF A FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT

in #story7 years ago

I was shaking, my hands were vibrating; I was definitely scared, I needed to check this thing

I wondered why network was taking this long to download it ...

The file finally downloaded!!! ‘’Unilag Merit Admission list’’. I hastily scrolled down to Engineering; then systems engineering… 1,2,3,4…..15, I hadn’t seen my name, I was already doubting the presence of my name in the list and then it happened…….
19] Eleonu Ugochukwu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I jumped in excitement; I had made it!!!!!!!!!

Two weeks passed……….

I entered the university with my head held high; I was going to register and fully become a student, ‘’A university undergraduate for that matter’’ I said to myself. This was my second trial through JAMB and if I hadn’t gotten in then my parents would graciously make life miserable for me for the next one year I’d have spent at home, but here I am; on the registration queue waiting to be registered, feels awesome...

Registration officer: hand me 5 sets of photocopies of your credentials with passports attached to it
Me; Sir I have only 4 sets
Registration officer: My friend, give me 5 sets!!
Me; sir they asked us to bring only 4…
Registration officer: Is something wrong with you??!! Get out of my sight!!!!

I was 100% sure they asked us to come with only 4 photocopies, I checked again online and I saw 4! What is even wrong with this people?!! And that was how I had to go and do another set of photocopies and queue up for registration all over again, I got home 8pm that day stressed and frustrated. This was my first day in school and it wasn’t nice at all!!!!!!

One week later……

It’s the first day of lectures, the timetable showed I had lectures from 9am-5pm
[Nawa oh!!!, this people cannot even pity somebody]
I had issues locating where my lecture was holding,

the previous night I had spent an hour trying to decipher course codes and know which ones I was offering.

Still searching for where my lecture was going to hold, all I was hearing was; go to the dean’s office
[ I don’t even know who that is or where his office is]
go to the lecture theater
[so there is something called a lecture theater?]
go to room 303
[HIAN!! which one is room 303 now??]

After 30minutes of searching and asking for directions, I finally entered the lecture theater half way into the first lecture, I was made to stand behind the class for the remaining part of the class due to my lateness and that was how both my first day in school and my first class in school were horrible!!

Matriculation is still some weeks away... I hope things get better by then..!!!

Congrats my fellow Akokite.

Such is the feel when entering. But mind you, what matters in the end will be academic excellence not the extremely distractive paparazzis that abound.

Welcome to the prestigious UNILAG. Best wishes.

Welcome to unilag aka school of First choice. It's the Nigerian factor., don't blame the lecturers or staff of the University.

Yeah
It’s truly the Nigerian factor
I hope things do get better over time

Its getting better in some universities

If you can survive in Nigeria, you can adapt to anything in the world.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Enjoy yourself.
The process of registering after admission in Nigeria is just tough.😢😢
I'm sure you'll survive!

It’s really tough
Thanks

I am @vickyrich a true @euronation member

This is beautiful...

Jamb stress, registration hustle and lecture stress are very common and quite normal in Nigerian higher institutions. But like a true Nigerian, you'll survive....no...you already survived 😂👏👏

Yes I did !!!!!!

I feel like you lived in my head for a day because this right here is exactly what's up with me 😂. Admission stress in Nigeria is a woaww. I hope it gets better

Lol
I hope it does too!!!!

The enigma one gets when he enters a higher institution is one characterized with the feel of euphoria.

I must commend your effort in following up with clearance procedures. The endless queues are something to bear.

It was really an experience
I do hope things get better along the way

Welcome to University.Thank God you had a space to stand at the back. In my school then, late comers sit on the floor in front or stand outside, much crowd. You hurry to school before 6am for 8am lecture. The worst is that we queue for everything like children, to enter bus, to buy things, to sign course form.pls all the best, anyways

The kind of heartquake that used to happen that time is extraordinary. So afraid of disappointment. Hmmmm. Gone are those days now. To God be d glory
