Short story: Work hard and earn it yourself
There lived a man who is the richest man in his community. The rich man had a son who is the only child. One day, this only done asked the father to will all his properties to him but the father refused and asked him to first of all go and work and bring him $10,000.
The boy was angry and told his mother what his father said, the mother gave him the $10,000 and he took it to his father. He met his father sitting by the fire. After giving the money to his father, the father threw the money into the fire and asked him to go and get another money.
He was angry and went straight to his mother to tell her what happened. His mother promised to give him another $10,000 but will delay it a little so that the Father will not suspect that he got the money from her.
After a little delay, she gave him the money and he took it to his father. The father again threw the money into fire and asked him to go and get another $10,000. He was so angry and went to tell his mother again to tell her what happened and the mother promised to give him another money. This time, he refused and told her that he will go and work to earn the money by himself.
He left the city to another city entirely to labour hard in other to get the money. After like a year, he was able to gather the $10,000 and went back home. On getting home, he met his father still sitting by the fire and gave him the money. The father took the money and again threw it into the fire. When he threw it into the fire, the boy shouted and rush into the fire to prevent the money from getting burnt knowing fully well what he went through to get the money.
When the father saw his son's reaction, he said to him that he now knows the value of money and he can now will his properties to him.

It's always best to work hard and earn things ourselves. This will make us value what we have. Just like the son of the rich man, we will not value whatever we get for free. Even if we will get anything for free, we should ensure that we must have worked to earn for ourself something that worth much more than what we are getting for free.
