Why it is so easy to give up?
The concept of giving up is definitely not new. But have you ever thought about why it is so easy to get to that state?
I gave up lot of times on lot of things, and evidently you had the same experience.
It is a part of our life, and we just simply cannot deny it. It is a common trait of any person which I believe is one of the most dangerous one.
I believe there are 3 reasons why it is easy to give up.
Discomfort
When you try something that you have never done before, you will start to change yourself. And you probably know that change is uncomfortable.
It is logical that doing something new is weird and unusual. Some people can handle that but the majority find it pretty difficult, and that's okay.
The most important here is to understand a psychology behind change. And the truth is that it will be uncomfortable, it will bring some challenge, it will create new emotions inside your body that you might not even thought existed before.
And you know what? That's awesome. That's awesome because it will make you grow and will make you stronger. It is necessary and it is required for your personal development.
Struggle
On top of the fact that change or chasing your dream is uncomfortable, it will also bring you a struggle.
Lots of people don't realize that it will be hard to change, it will be hard to achieve your big dream or big goal.
And the reason why it is done in such way I believe is because if it was easy, it wouldn't be interesting. If it is was easy, it wouldn't be exciting. If it was easy, you would stay at the same level for the rest of your life. And staying where you are is boring.
So don’t try to avoid the struggle, don’t try to hide from it or just simply neglect. The struggle will not vanish until you accept it as a part of your journey. Honor it, live with it, make it all count.
Unrealistic expectations
There is also one particular reason that sets apart from people who stay and those who do not, and it is that they have unrealistic expectations about the thing they want to achieve.
They set huge goal and try to hit it but it turns out impossible. Although I believe that everything is possible if you want it bad enough, you have to take into account the time that is necessary in order to achieve all of the great stuff.
You may set some realistic deadlines that you can handle or you may challenge yourself to establish new standards that others will model. In any case do what you feel is right for you, not for others but for you specifically.
Rejection
You knew I’ll get to this one sooner or later so here we go.
When you try to do things differently, rejection will be always following you. People may not understand your choice, they may judge you, ridicule you or even think you’re crazy.
But the most important thing from all is to be able to filter the noise and the actual feedback.
I perceive noise as comments that are told by the people who have no idea about your industry, your dreams, your potential, you in general. They just throw some bad stuff into the universe because they are not content with themselves. They have their own issues to work on, and that’s driving them nuts subconsciously.
On the other side, there is feedback which I consider as a valuable source of information that can help to improve your work in the future. Feedback is usually received from a knowledgeable person of particular area of expertise or sometimes it can be a good friend that can suggest you what’s better.
Anyways, giving up can be easy because there are lots of factors involved but if you have the courage to push yourself and continue to follow your intuition, you may attain something beautiful in your life.
