In his famous novel, "Crime and Punishment," Fyodor Dostoevsky describes a murder worthy of a terrible vengeance - his character Raskolnikov - a poor St Petersburg student, killing a greedy old lady and her younger sister, then robbing the murdered, and hiding the money under a stone and does not seek them any more. His conscience tortures him and puts him sick in bed. After the disclosure of the crime was sent to a labor camp, but more terrible than this punishment, it is his suffering. Raskolnikov is tormented by his own remorse - they are the real punishment. The philosophical and social concept of the novel is actually encoded in its very title. Dostoevsky conceived the idea of "Crime and Punishment" in 1863 while in Italy, but the novel was realized in the period 1865-1866. It was first published in the journal "Russian Journal". Dostoevsky himself was pressed by material problems at the time - his passion for gambling led him to full ruin - he owed huge sums of creditors, and he wanted to financially help his late brother Michael.

He signs a contract for the writing of the novel, explaining to the editor briefly his idea. He himself is in the state of a person who is afraid of his future, but is pressed by circumstances to get to work to make money. At that time, the writer constantly watched the criminal chronicles, and in fact, in the novel "Crime and Punishment," he re-created artistically high-profile criminal cases from his time. One of the real stories is that of Gerasim Chistov, who kills two women who worked in the home of his relatives. The women knew him and let him into the apartment at a time when the farmers were gone. Purist had long since become friends with women and deliberately preparing for his crime. When they let him into the house, the man drank and ate with them in a friendly atmosphere. At one point, one of the women left the room, and then he used the moment to slash the other with the ax. And when the first one returns and sees what he has done, he kills her. Then the killer steals the money of his relatives, silver coins, ornaments, and ... a lottery ticket. Everything worth 11,280 rubles. Dostoevsky took this case as the basis for his novel Crime and Punishment. It is everything we see in the novel - two victims, an ax, stolen, hidden and unused money. Dostoevsky's character Raskolnikov in the novel. Another case of the criminal newspaper chronicles - the murder of the state official - councilor Councilor Anna Dubarasova, also came into "use". Her killer, Stepanov, was a small bourgeoisie in financial trouble. He decides to kill the woman to rob her.

He invented a treacherous plan: he prepared a box and carried it packed like a parcel of Dubrasova. When the woman opens the door, he slowly begins unpacking the package. Dubarassova, curious to see what the consignment contained, leaned over the parcel. And then Stepanov hit her with a stone in his head. The murderer, however, was not lucky: he just began to dig in the jewels of the murdered, and in the dwelling came a kinsman who started screaming for help. Stepanov did not hesitate to attack her, but he could not kill her. What did Dostoevsky borrow from this story? - The idea of a fake parcel. Raskolnikov also has a plan to distract the usurper and, at a convenient moment, hit her with the ax on his head. There is also a third real story, used by Dostoevsky in "Crime and Punishment" - with a professor of rogue. Alexander Timofejevic Neofit was a professor of history, and at the same time a head of a bunch of crooks. The gang traded securities and dealt with usury and fraud. People professor counterfeit notes of 100 rubles in 5 and or give them as credit-strapped citizens or were sending someone to "break" a genuine banknotes. At one point, however, they fall to the Vinogradov student who issues them. This real court case is mentioned in the novel Crime and Punishment by Piotr Luzhin during his first encounter with Raskolnikov. Dostoevsky was intrigued by the involvement of a student in this crime and how this young man later regrets. The same destructive thoughts and feelings torture his character Raskolnikov.
