Fitting a custom Radiator to a 1964 Dodge A100 Forward Control Van
This is my pride. A 1964 Dodge A100 Display van. This half ton is the first year of production, has 95,000 miles, and has been a southern California vehicle it's entire life, and I am it's 3rd owner. I have done a lot of non cosmetic work, including a complete wiring harness.
It's been a year and a half since I have touched the Dawgvan, due to a spinal injury. Before the injury, I spent 2 years looking for a radiator, they don't make them for these Dodges anymore, and ended up with a 1932 Chevy Coupe Hotrod Radiator, that I then had to modify to fit. I also had to modify the housing to match as the filler and top hose locations are different. I did all that and painted the engine doghouse with a heat ablative paint on the inside, and high-build primer on the outside, and then went down with injury. This past weekend, 7 months post spinal surgery, I started the work again, with a test fit of the radiator and housing.|
Chief Inspector: New Chrome Dipped Alloy 4 Pass(Core) Radiator, Approximately 50% more surface area and 30% more capacity than original radiator. This should finally resolve the overheating at freeway speeds issue.
Bolted into the housing
Going to cut a piece of Chrome Diamond plate over the top once I know exactly how much room I need for the top hose, and an as yet to be added overflow tank.
And here it is, fully bolted in
You might be going "What is going on here"? That angled dark thing is the drivers seat, the beige box is the "heater", and yes, you are looking at the floor of the front seat. Disregard the stacked camping equipment... Next up, pulling it back out, installing the electric Pusher fan on the front, Adding new hoses, and the chrome deflector plate to the top. After that engine cleanup, a valve cover gasket and paint for the valve cover and oil bath air cleaner, and installation of the rest of the doghouse panels.
To be continued.
Nice to see you, both working on the van and posting!
Thanks! Good to be wrenching again.
Congratulation

This is the kinda stuff my husband does. He is a fab backyard mechanic. Anything he cant do, he figures it out. Its a practicality and resourcefulness I really admire.
