I rescued a cat from cat abusers

I live in the city of Newark, NJ. I have been living here for the last 6 months. For the last 3 months I have been working as a Security Officer for an apartment building.

One month ago when I was working the late shift, I noticed a cat approaching 2 men outside. The men noticed the cat and tried to throw their bottles of beer at him. The cat ran off scared and I kicked the two men off the property. I felt really bad for that cat.

A few days later my co worker tells me that he wants to show me a video. When I look over, it was a video of him with the same cat. In the video he picks up the cat and kicks him. He begins to laugh and I tell him its not funny.

A few days after showing me the video, I notice the same cat wander walking outside the building. A few teenagers were attempting to kicm him around like a soccerball. I yelled at all of them and threatened to call the police if they didn't leave. He then follows me into the building.

I pet him and I felt that he had a few scabs on his body. I buy him a can of cat food because he looked very hungry. All he wanted to do was eat and cuddle. He followed me around at my job so I felt as if he was comfortable around me. I attempted to call animal control and the humans society hoping that they would help him. They responded that most stray animals found by them in this area end up getting euthanized or never adopted.

I made the decision to take him home instead. A tenantwas nice enough to lend me a carrier to take him home. I bought the cat supplies the next day and took him to get a few shots. I dropped him off at the humane society and told them that am going to adopt him. They took him in for a week so he can be cleared and cleaned up.

I never owned a pet before. So this was a huge shock for me. My girlfriend told me that she is ready for have a cat and to take care of him. I did not have the money to take care of him, but after seeing his face I had no other choice but to pick up an extra shift at work to keep him.

Its been 2 weeks with him and I have never been happier. He is enjoying his stay. I decided to name him Luke Cage or Luke for short because he is pretty tough after taking beatings from the people in the area. He enjoys his time cuddling and laying on top of us.

He has a thing for wanting to go on walks, just like a dog. Whatever works for him. If he wants to go on ealks, ill take him on walks. He is adjusting just fine and he now has his forever-home with us
