In My Dream - The Collapse of Steemit, Crumbling to Nothing But Dust
Last Night I Had a Dream or Rather a Nightmare
In my dream, I was waking up to the morning of the Year 2020 Christmas Day. Historians and forensic experts are trying to figure out what has just happened to Steemit last night by combing through the blockchain logs for any evidence they can find. As for the people who have lost everything in Steemit: some commit suicides, some lose their family, some go into deep depression, and some start to look for jobs they hate.
What Has Caused This To Happen?
That's the question asked by everyone. It's on the breaking news of every media outlet. You can hear everyone talking about it, either on the street, in the workplace, or on the internet. Everyone has his or her own opinion.
Fortunately, it doesn't take the experts very long to find out. The roots of the collapse are power and greed.
Perfect Design of Steemit
The design of Steemit is perfect in a perfect world. It's a crypto world where people can invest either their money or their time to create content and earn cryptocurrency. There is no censorship - people have the freedom of self-governance.
In a perfect Steemit world, authors write good posts and comments, and curators upvote the best ones to reward them. This further encourages authors to write more good content, which in return increases the value of the platform. As a result, it attracts more good authors and more investors.
But Humans Can Be Selfish Sometimes
When authors, after spending countless hours writing good content, do not see their posts get rewarded as they should have been but instead see average content get rewarded from either self-upvotes or their friends, they are dismayed and leave. Slowly, it has become less and less attractive until last night when more people tried to pull out their steem dollars that have been slowly losing their value, which caused the price of steem to drop to nothing in a downward spiral just like when stock markets collapsed in the past.
We all understand that taking care of ourselves, our family and our friends is very important. There is nothing wrong with that. I do that, too. But we need to remember that if we only exclusively upvote ourselves and family and friends, we are not encouraging the good content created by new people, which is the foundation upon which the growth of this platform is based. The more upvotes we can give to good content created by new people we don't even know and help them earn their steem power, the more stable the platform is.
By the way, forensic experts even manage to find some posts with only a single photo or a few words earning hundreds of dollars. They are posted by people who have invested lots of money in buying steem power and self-upvoted nothing else but their own posts and their own comments. They are taking advantage of those who create good content. They are milking the cows they never feed!

The Good News
Then I woke up from my dream. I quickly turned on my computer, went to my web browser, found the Steemit tab, and clicked on refresh. To my greatest relief, the Steemit platform is still here! I check my calendar. It's Christmas Day 2017.
What Can Be Done
The solution is to give some of our votes to the authors whom we don't even know and who write good content. We know it takes time. But for the future of the platform, even if we don't have time, please delegate some of our steem power to people who have the time to do it for us. Remember that the more steem power we have, the more responsibility we have and the more we can lose.
Thank you for allowing me to share my dream. I am so grateful that it was only a dream. Together we can make Steemit even better!
Merry Christmas Everyone

This post is really deep and call for reflection.
It is heart broken when we see content that deserved the best received less.
The success of this community depends on all of us
Yes, I agree! Thank you for your comment.
I agree we need to spread the votes around and be the change to keep this platform and community thriving. I came here to share and learn. Earnings of Steem, SBD are just a bonus to me. I hope that we can create a supportive community based on the currency of our ideas and information, and expose the greedy. Thank you for this insightful post.
Merry Christmas!
Thank you for your comment! Merry Christmas to you, too!
Great writing. Love the sentiment. I went on an upvoted frenzy over the past few days and said I wouldn't upvote anything til I get my voting power back up but I couldn't resist!!
