Sri Lankan Folk Tales #2

in #story7 years ago

Hi guys, I've got another folktale I've heard from my grandpa. This one is funny.

There is a series of tales around a man called Andare. He is a court jester. The tales that goes around him are funny. I really enjoyed the series of Andare's tales.

How Andare ate Jambu.

When Andare was walking around in the king's courtyard, he saw that the Jambu tree was full of Jambu fruit(also known as Java apple). Andare wanted to eat them but the king has ordered that no one was to look at or to touch the Jambu fruits. So he thought of a good plan to eat the Jambu fruits.

He covered his eyes with a piece of cloth and went to the Jambu tree with his hands clasped behind his back. Then he ate all the Jambu fruits that came near his mouth.

On that afternoon, the king saw that some Jambu fruits were missing. He asked the palace guards to catch the thief.

On the next day Andare went to the Jambu tree with his eyes closed and his hands clasped to his back as yesterday. Then the guards caught Andare and brought him before the king. The king said that he was going to punish Andare for going against the rules.

Then Andare said he at the Jambu fruits without touching or looking at them as the king has ordered. Then the king asked him to show him how he ate the Jambu fruits. Then Andare showed him how he ate the Jambu fruits. The king was very amused to hear the Andare's trick and started laughing. Then he gave him presents to take home instead of punishing him.

 Hope you enjoyed.
