THE POWER OF SELF MOTIVATION: HOW CHUKS PASSED HIS MBBS EXAM. WITH A BROKEN RIGHT ARM

in #story6 years ago

Sometimes life doesn't present you with the cards you want but that doesn't mean you can get the best out of life. positive-2470506__480.jpg

Chuks enters the University of port Harcourt as a young boy who just finished secondary school. He was a very bright student, he made 9 A's in his West Africa examination council. After getting into medical school he passed all the professional exam in one sitting till he got to year 5. In his year 5 he had a resit in paediatrics and passed the resit.

Due to the resit, he had to read to make sure he got to the next level so he missed so many classes and was always reading Paediatrics till he finally passed.

When he got to year 6, they were far gone and he could barely cope. At the heat of trying to make ends meet. He had a mental breakdown of which he became psychotic. He had a resit in all the courses in year 6 (medicine, surgery, preventive and social medicine).

Chuks recovered from the mental illness and was adjusting pretty fast. He started preparing for the exams, he had only three months to prepare. My fear for him was that I didn't want him to have another episode of mental illness.

Two weeks to the exam Chuks was almost done with preparation and decided to go and play soccer. Chuks was also a talented footballer, an intelligent midfielder who was able to create goals. Unfortunately, while playing football he sustained an injury. He broke his right hand, he had a fracture of the radius bone. He was rushed to the accident and emergency, the nurses attended to him and sent him to Orthopedics department of UPTH. He was told the fracture was going to heal in two weeks.

I went to him and asked him what he would do about it. Guess what he said?

I will write this exam anyhow and pass this exam.

I was not sure of this as Chuks was in so much pains. He had a cast on to help support his hand. Chuks kept on struggling. He decided to start using his left hand so that if his right hand was not going to work he would use his left.
One week to the exam he made sure he used that right hand in doing everything. Chuks will shake you with the right hand, will try to sweep with the right hand even if it was going to take a whole year to get the place cleaned up. Chuks was always lively and full of life.

The exam started, everyone in the class was praying for Chuks. He told everyone he was going to pass with all confidence. After the exam, we waited patiently for the result which was to come out in two days time. The medicine list came out, Chuks had his name there. I was happy but I needed to contain my happiness. Two hours later Preventive and social medicine result was pasted, his name was also there. Finally, surgery came out , the surgery that held strong men down. We were scared but yes!!! He passed. Chuks was so scared that he ran home before the result came out. This was the best new Chuks got and the best news I got.

MORAL OF THE STORY

No matter how hard life gets, make sure you are ready to get harder. Also, positivism is what every and anyone should embrace. Always give things your best shot.

when the going gets tough, only the tough gets going

I want to use this medium to congratulate Dr. Chuks on passing his final professional exams.
