Save Balis little Kitties

in #story7 years ago

Hey fellow Steemians,

first I want to thank you all for the warm welcome on my #Introduceyourself post this week. You´re all amazing, thanks for the support.

Today I want to tell you a story about our experience about abandoned little cats on the streets of Bali. Just to raise awareness of it.
Most of you guys probably already aware of this like we were, before our experience. But if you see it and than act and do something you get more sensitive for this issue.

It was in February this year when we went from Canggu (a famous surf destination) to Ubud (the jungle :) ) with our Scooter.
As we arrived in the Centre of Ubud we just wanted to go for lunch cause we were starving. So we parked our scooter in front of the restaurant and as we were about to get in we realized a tiny small kitten under the scooter next to us. She looked at us and was crying. It was pretty obvious that she was alone without the mother cat. All the people who were standing next to her ignored her (but thats another story).

We didn't know what to do and decided to gave her some water and rinsed her eyes as she was pretty dirty. We then went into the restaurant for some lunch. While we were inside I did some research about animal shelters on Bali and so I found one Kitten shelter just a few kilometers away called "Villa Kitty", run by a beautiful Lady called Elizabeth Grant https://www.villakitty.com.

As we finished our lunch and came out of the restaurant, she had already moved under our Scooter. So we stopped thinking and talking about it and started acting as she seemed to be really weak. We took her on the Scooter and drove to the Villa Kitty.

Its a really old big house on a big property. As soon as you arrive you'll here all the Kitties and Dogs as well. So we gave the Cat to a vet who is working there and she started to wash her and gave her some food. When she was finished the vet Girl asked us if we want to take her with us again. We were speechless, cause we didn't expect that question. As we´re Tourists we can't take a cat with us and asked them to leave it with them.

The big Problem is, that they get cats every single day and they can't reject to take them so the number of cats they take care of increase day by day and a Vaccination for one single cat already cost around 100$.

Long story short, we left her at the Villa and drove back to Canggu. We decided to collect donations from family and friends at home so that we are able to pay for at least "our" cats Vaccination.

After about 3 Weeks we collected 2.6 million Rupiah, thats nearly 200$. So we took the Scooter and drove up the 2 hours ride to Ubud again. This day we met the founder as well and she was happy that we came back.

Unfortunately our little kitten has passed away two days earlier, because of no immunity.
But anyway we were sure that we did the right thing, at least we tried to rescue her and did not left her behind. But that started to make us thinking about that problem and we realized that we can do something. Not only for the abounded kittens, but also for the problems they have with all the Dogs which is much worse.

But as I´m writing this I start to think bigger and maybe we can do some donation collecting in the future and spend it on different matters. To buy clothes for poor people, buy a surfboard for kid who has the skills but not the money or collect all the Garbage from the beaches in the rainy season...

Yes, I know its not only on Bali, shit happens everywhere in the world, but you have to start anywhere. Just from talking and thinking about it, nothing will change.

As soon as we´re back on Bali in September I will do some research where we can help.
What do you guys think about that? If you like the idea I would love to post about the Projects on here and you´re all welcome to donate, every coin counts.

So and now I wish you all a happy and relaxed Sunday!! Enjoy your day.

Thank you for putting in the effort to care about these animals! I love cats and am very aware of any stray cat I meet on the street! I try to feed them, but some are just too skittish, and run away.
