📷 My 2017 Cape Town Camping Adventure - A Photo Story Tour

I’m breaking away from the writing stuff with this post. I recently drove to Cape Town (South Africa) from Pretoria to go on a 10-day camping adventure with my kids. By plane, this trip only takes two hours, but going down with a car, takes two days.

Note: All images taken on my Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge. I did not color correct or edit any of the photos, except for reducing the physical size in order to make them load faster for you, as well as adding the text to the header image.

Hope you enjoy these pics. I’m happy to share these memories with you guys, and if you haven’t been to Cape Town before, you simply have to add it to your bucket list.

Here's my story in a nutshell.

We hit the road a few hours later than we had initially planned on doing, and in doing so, hit sundown an hour or two before reaching our halfway stop over at Colesberg.

The second day on the road felt like it would never end, with highway stretching as far as the eye can see. I really loved the mountain passes, and it felt like I was playing a real-life version of Need for Speed at times.

At the last stretch of the trip, we drove right though a mountain via the Hugenote tunnel. It took us four and a half minutes to drive from one end to the other, so you can more-or-less imagine the size of this mountain. The tunnel itself is an engineering marvel.

Finally in Cape Town, and the one of my first thoughts when snapping this pic was that this would probably be what the in-game graphics of GTA 8 would look like. If they ever got that far with the franchise.

There’s something about being surrounded by mountains that I love. The traffic was insane, but the beauty of our surroundings totally made up for it.

cpt09.jpg

And then there’s finally the money shot. That one thing that makes Cape Town what it is: Table Mountain. This thing is much more majestic in real life than any photograph could ever capture.

cpt10.jpg

We also spent some time on various beaches like Blouberg and Muizenberg, and Strand. You would not believe how expensive some of these beach-side houses are. It's insane!

cpt11.jpg

One thing that I particularly love about Cape Town is that you could be surrounded by lush, green vegetation one minute, and then almost desert-like sand dunes and ocean the next.

Looking down this road, one couldn’t help but feel like it was a lazy Sunday afternoon. I could live here, and die a happy man.

cpt14.jpg

Camping is fun, but hard work at the same time. Oh, and did I mention the spiders?? But the braai at the end of most days made it worth enduring our arachnid companions and occasional rain.

We also spent a day at the V&A Waterfront, where the aquarium was the biggest hit with the kids.

Our last sunset before the long road home was also the most beautiful one of the entire trip.

cpt18.jpg

Our road trip back through the mountains was breath-taking. Photos just can’t do it justice. You simply must experience it for yourself.

cpt19.jpg

Erm... pass!

cpt20.jpg

And so the sun sets on our adventure, and we return to the harsh reality of work and bills. It was an amazing trip, and I already have the date set for my next one. Hope to catch some of you there!

Cheerios for now,

Thanks a mil, @snapperlize! :) Yeah, we had a blast, and if all goes well, we'll have another trip later this year.

The pictures are beautiful.

We should make a overlanders group on steem.

Thanks, moneytips! Much appreciated :) And yes, a group like that would be awesome. Would love to see places other people have traveled as well.
